I have been fishing Rolley quite frequently for the past month and the angling has been quite spectacular with small nymphs producing well when presented on floating lines or on Rio's MidgeTip, sink-tip fly line. Casting to rising fish has made it all the more exciting! I fished Rolley last on Sunday evening, May 17th from 7pm till 9pm. Trout could be observed rising in fairly predicable patterns while cruising in small pods, which made sight-casting to target rising fish a very realistic and productive event. I used a popular Welsh fly pattern called the "Diawl Bach" and an English dry fly called the "Hopper" (cinnamon body color), but the Diawl Bach took all but two trout that took the dry. The Diawl Bach is an unweighted pattern, which basically looks very much like a Half Back or Phesant Tail Nymph, but had a red holographic ribbing. I used a floating line for the entire time, as the trout were very near the surface and eagerly hammered the fly when cast near their rise and pulled back with a fairly fast "figure-of-eight (hand-twist) retrieve. All in all, it was a very peaceful, productive and relaxing way to end the day. Hope to see you on the water! Cheers, Todd Oishi
