Once an accessible on foot, this bar no longer is. Due to an 'agreement' passed in 1949, the dyke used to access the 2 wingdam bars is now closed to the public (apparently it always has been). The dyke is on private property and the public is forbidden to access the dyke at Wingdam (from the RCMP themselves). During the past 3 day sockeye opening, a few minor violent incidents took place where fishermen set on walking the dyke to the bar, were in fact tackled by the land owner, and a couple farm hands, and held until police arrived. No arrests were made, and a tractor was used to block the dyke. Access to the wingdam bars is PERMITTED, but only by boat. You can legally launch your craft (portable boats only) at the windamn dyke entrance, or you can launch from the dewdney regional boat launch. Complaints from the farmers were simply too much trash and garbage, and a fear of his cattle being tampered with or what have you. Its a shame that the public as a whole, and the landowner can not come to some sort of agreement as it is fantastic fishing. I encourage anyone who has the means to access this bar by boat to do so. It is 2 bars on a nice bend in the river. great for springs at the second bar. Tight lines, and keep it clean folks! The next available bar is another 45m drive.
