Use size 3/0 OWNER barbless hook. Wool should be approx. 2 finger digits long. Don't cheap out on the hooks! This could be the differencebetween landing the prize catch and walking home empty handed!

Could not keep the sockeye off the line! I thought this fishery was over by now. Try the swan technique every third or fourth cast for variation. These fish are good fighters, you'll know when you have one on the line. Don't ever be afraid to experiment. keep your leader no more than one foot long to avoid foul hooking. Study rate of flow (ROF) by first throwing a feather in the water to see distance travelled over a specified elapsed time. This will give you a good gauge of weight to be used as well as retrieval speed to be utilised. Setting of hook is not necessary, but it does not hurt to give a few yanks. Keep in mind , however, that these fish are non-retainable and must be released unharmed and with care. Identify species early so as not to beach non-retainable fish. Although they are a paraphyletic group and ectothermic, keep in mind they have a closed loop circulatory system that is dramatically affected once out of water. And remember, as long as there is natural flowing water, there is fish in the system. Tight lines, Sharp hooks !!!
