Most of the mountain lakes are frozen. Kilpoula has more than 6 inches on it and its not that high. I'm sure madden and Ripley are both solid. Have been told Fish lake has been producing as well.

The mcculloch area is all frozen up solid....Was just a idabel and it has 12inches plus and at fish lake last week with very good success!

hey bigwhitej, nice lookin trout. I just moved to big white from ontario and am looking for some places to fish/ info about fishing in the area. Are any of the other lakes around Idabel any good for fishing as well? Is the okanagon falls road in pretty good shape?
bigwhitej

The entire area around Idabel is great for rainbow trout and some with eastern brook trout. Just get yourself a map of the area and there are roads to most of the lake....Currently the roads are plowed and in great shape to Idabel and McCulloch lake....The browne lake rd is also plowed with active logging somewhere up that way.

whats the secret to Idabel lake? i have been a few times now and only come up with maybe 2 or 3 4inch brookies

do you want to fish shallow or deep? ( i have done the shallows and some deeper)

what kind of rigs would work best and bait (i use single hook with a single drop shot on it with worms, shrimp,i heard bacon works out there)

do you let the hook and bait sink right to the bottom and then reel up a foot or so or if there a different technique?

thanks guys

Awwww that sounds like the same luck that I have had recently at Idabel. In the past Idabel has produced fairly well for brookies in the winter and rainbows in the summer. Saw a picture recently of a 4lbs brookie that was pulled out this summer so they are still in there!

It sounds like your doing exactly as I would with the worm and fishing in the shallows....Pick somewhere near a drop off or in the weeds.

I am not to sure what the issue is in that lake right now but I am sure that it will turn around soon hopefully, just keep trying!

Anyone else out there been up to idabel lately and had any luck?
bigwhitej

By the way the 201 or OK falls road was not plowed past idabel lake the last time I was up there, about a week and half ago and on a week day. Which is a bit strange I think for a major road like that one. At that time it only had about 8inches of snow on it so it would have been passable with any high clearance 4x4. I know the info is a bit late but hopefully usefull in some way!
