very nice flies for your limited experience. they look far better than a 3 week vet!
lately i have been mostly tieing bucktails as i fish shuswap lk in the spring. will try and awaken my technical skills and post some photos........great post mike. don't let the sometimes nasty reaction scare you away. members like yourself will help improve this site.

Those are some excellent first ties.
Besides steel, many of those patterns will take bulls (and other char), trout, and salmon.

Good job!

nice flies !!! keep them coming in..I'll start tying again after xmas...down island for xmas cant wait to pick up some new material....Merry Christmas everyone...tight lines..

new material means more flies to tie ! keep at it . very addictive but a good pastime.
have a merry christmas mike.

Nice first attempt You might to want to cut back a little on the material some of them are a little over dressed, you will find over time that you really dont need much to entice fish to hit

Thanks Mike, certainly more effort than I felt like going through, but if I can get a couple hrs between now and the fry hatch,I'll give it a go.

those look good enough to eat. how can a steelhead resist?
do you just use your imagination or from a recipe/book? whichever, you are doing very well. i've just been tieing bucktails lately. i have to get back to tieing others as my fly boxes are down a few and i promiced to tie some for one of the members , so have to change the mindset a bit. its fun trying to make something that will look like a minnow or shrimp or whatever and then catch a fish on it. speaking of catching, have you had any success recently?

i get most my ideas from utube, looking at flys and my brother..im heading out now to hunt a final steelhead of the year...my first and only winter steel was dec 10..on gear..drifting roe...thnx foe the comments...tightlines

decided to flyfish only for a couple weeks..so now i have to compete with the guys drifting roe...so i tied up s few of these..hopefully dead drifting these fleshy eggs might do the trick.
Fish_Whisperer

Hey mike nice looking roe fly, did u get a chance to chuck it around yet? should entice a few bites.
steelheadmike72

my brother picked up a beauty steel on one of the "roe-ish" flies a couple weeks back..it was his first winter steel on the fly..water was real low..and we were watching 3 of em trying to attack it..one hit it..lost it..next cast another hit it..its in the freezer awaiting the smokehouse.
fish22

Hey Mike, what material did you use to tie your roe patterns?
steelheadmike72

I thread a needle with a strong thread or even like 6lb test line..then push the needle through 3unscented eggs or even small gooeybob..if you thread it not in the middle but the side of the egg it fits better....so ya just tie on a nice lil cluster on your hook...then its just white marabou ...ive even put a chenille head at the front too..a bead might look nice too...

mix it up and try diff colors..maybe a lil flash..
swing it across a tailout..or dead drift it..even under an indicator..ive wrapped wire around the hook for weight too..if your gonna try and launch it overhand casting ya better wear glasses and a helmet..haha...roll cats pretty good tho on the two hander.
experiment with it when tying and think out of the box.
tightlines.
