Hey everyone, ill be in the Egmont / Jervis Intlet area at a resort. Definately thinking about going fishing, does anyone have any info on this area? were going to rent a boat so thats no problem.. Any freshwater rivers or lakes in this area? and also for salt water fishing, ill be targeting salmon and cod, and ive never fished for salmon without a guide in the oceans / inlents before. How should i set up my rod and how heavy should my setup be? Thanks

i havn't been to egmont in years but whe i used to go the rock cod and lingcod population was doing fairly well and there were lots there... lately i have haerd the opposite so it might jsut be better for you to call up the boat rental places or something... just a thought

yeah...yoour allowed one rock cod per day...no lingcod all year. if you find kelp beds then you could at least catch some kelp greenling or go crabbing near sandy areas. flounder are also available. salmon are plentiful over there especially coho salmon.

Fishing in that part of the world has gone to s*** this past decade-there's almost nothing left.
The guy who said "there's lots of Coho there' has NFI what he's talking about-there are none.
If it's a resort go for a Kayak paddle it's still a beautiful place but the fish are few and far between.

hmmmmmmm yea i guess ill go for freshwater fishing then theres still ruby lake and sakinaw.. how are those lakes doing at this time of year?

let me re phrase that rodbreaker..i used to live on the sechelt peninsula...and have caught salmon many times. its all based on tides and food source. trolling is your best bet. buzzbomb or jig near the rocky points and kelp beds. iwas there in gibsons last summer and caught my limit of coho just trolling with hootchi flasher combo. awesome area nonetheless.going back again in late august. Roberts creek area is good as well.

thers a bunch of fishfarms in the area.avoid those areas completely. they are everywhere along the coast. could be a reason why there are less salmon there in a given day.

Also there are in fact few Salmon farms left compared to previously-what there are consist of Shellfish operations-not the same thing at all.
I stick with my original statement that the whole area is almost completely devoid of Salmon-this year in particular has been the worst in the past 20.

Just got off the phone with the Egmont Marina, and it looks like their coho run is going to be a bit late this year, due to the hatchery in the inlet. Guy said lots of rock cod , ling cod and red snappers although the daily quota is 1 rock cod and no ling cods.

Ill also be doing quite a bit of fishing in the local lakes there, and also sakinaw and ruby. Ill be fly fishing and spin casting with a dinghi for the exceptionaly small lakes. Does anyone know of the fishing in these lakes and what fly and bait i should use? thanks.
