Ok im thinking of purchasing a brand new outbouard for my boat. 9.9 or 10 hp Mercury... Evinrude.... Yamaha.... im not sure. Has anyone any advice on brands, dealers or anything before I go ahead and make the buy? I know I'll get a warrenty and things like that. I also know i'll have to pay taxes too. Are there any ways around taxes, or can you recomend any haggling techniques with the sales person? Any advice big or small from you guys would be awsome. Cheerz

I used to have a 30Hp yamaha on a zodiac with fiberglass hull front deck with steering wheel it was 12 feet long and that thing went like a bat out of hell it was the new precision blend didnt have to mix the oil just ran off straight fuel that was a very reliable motor and it was just strictally in salt water that boat was the best so all i have used is YAMAHA motors and i have nothing bad to say about them awesome i would buy another one if icould afford it

Think about where you are going to use it. On the Fraser or just lake fishing. Yamaha is the favorite on the outposts of Vancouver Island for reliability and dollar value. 4 strokes are backbreaking if you are in the river without power assist. 4 strokes also need a good warm up time in the fall when its really cold but are the best for trolling. If you're on the Fraser, put on the maximum horsepower your boat will allow. Honda is cadillac, but then there are beer pocket guys like us.

I'd just like to say thanx to all for the usefull info on this site. I went today to Empress Marine in bby and bought a 2004 Honda 9.9 The price was so good that it was an easy pick. Cant wait to use it.

troutfisher that's a very nice motor. I'm thinkg of buying a new boat and motor myself. What kind and what size of boat are you puting this motor on? Do you or any body knows if it's safe to go on Fraser with 9.9 4 stroke motor?
Thanks

Thanks Capman, This Honda is going on a 12' aluminum Lund. Im in the frist stages of breakn in the motor and its very powerfull for this boat. I asked the guy from Empress Marine where I bought it from if its ok to use on the Fraser, and he said i'll have no problems there. However, I would get a 15hp for the Fraser for absolute sureness. I use my boat for lake fishing so this 9.9 is plenty for me. cheers
