Hey guys... My name is Myk and I'm very new to the forum. Live in Calgary AB and planning to go shore salmon fishing /Chilliwack - Hope area/ at end of August- beginning of September... Have a lot of fishing staff /rods, reels.../ just not sure what i will need... What type of rod is better (spinning or casting), reel, line? Type of rig? Used to fish a lot for steel-head in Great lakes with centerpin and float, so I have some knowledge. Would like to get some tips about salmon fishing. Any advise... Thanks a lot....

It all depends on what river you are fishing thats forsure. Bar fishing the fraser, or hitting the vedder. on the vedder i use a level wind i like the action i get drifting with it. I also use a 10'6" lamiglas certified pro that i made with a soft tip on it. I usually short float with a variety of bait. If your going on the fraser which i'm not to familiar with as I am a vedder fisherman, then you will need a rod that can cast out some 6-16oz weights. I use a 11 foot road that is stiff and capable of firing those weights out when I do. Your centerpin should be fine for the vedder.

Thanks for info... I have two 12' rods /GL2 and St.croix/ rated up to 10 lbs line, you guys, probably using heavy rods and 20-25lbs. lines. Looks like i have to go shopping to get a rod up to 20-25lbs... Thanks a lot...

Yeah 10lbs will be a little light. I use a 11' rateds 20-50 lbs. its probably overkill a little but, i got it as a gift and it works good. i can cast weights out a mile.
