Hey guys, my fishing buddy told me that guys in port alberni are already catching the early sockeys on the Stamp and Somass rivers. I was wondering if any of you guys have ever been fishing there? It will be my first time fishing there, if any of you guys know any hot spots, or set ups on how to fish this river please inform me. I am guessing a regular float, weight, and a hook with wool?
Thanks

Head to Papermill dam and do as others do.It is a flossery, but not like the Fraser. If you have access to a boat with downriggers, head to China creek. It's more fun and I think ur allowed 4 per day(double check that)

Gonefishin in town will tell you all you need to know.

is sockeye even open for fishing?.

It is in the Stamp/Somass and Alberni canal .Check the fisheries notices for specific boundaries.

I can't imagine going to Port Alberni, then only fishing the freshwater there. There are many spots in the inlet, as another mentioned, China Creek, MacTush etc etc. I am sure there is fishing in the rivers too, but see if you can get out on a boat with someone in the know (and downriggers) and really catch some fish. I basically learned most of what I know about fishing, fishing that area throughout my childhood. Good times and good memories.

Hi guys, i searched all over the regs but i could not find if you can retain sockeye on the Somass river yet? Can any of you guys send me a link or tell me when it is available to fish there? I will be fishing at paper mill dam.
Thanks
