I think you were thinking of Morgan lake near Florance. Pine lake is in a restricted area, no access. The road to Morgan Lake is realy rough, but you could get in there, I think Florence Lake is more difficult. The road to Sayres Lake is relatively good. Rolley Lake is stocked and easy to get to, a nice popular no motor lake.

i agree but when you only have a couple of hours before work i'd rather be fishing than driving to the lake

Avidflyguy-
Hayward lake is gone, nothing more than a small river where the lake used to be. Not sure what happened to the fish...lol, but the area will be closed for a few years.
d1975-
You are alowed motors on Florence and Morgan Lakes. There is little more than a trail through brush to get into the lakes from the road, so not likely you will be able to get anything other than a floattube in there.

That's right. I think there is a couple private/resort type lakes in the province that aren't covered by the regs, in that case you would have to get permission from the owner/operators.

No, part of Hayward lake remains, but it is a steep dropoff so they closed much of the area. Actualy it will remain drained only til the end of Aug., then again May 'til end of Aug next year as well.
The whole area below the Ruskin dam including the parkinglot and recreation area will be closed and fenced off for the next 6 years...no more gong show there for manny years...should give the Stave salmon and steelhead stocks a chance to grow.

The Hayward Lake reservoir drawdown is to upgrade the Ruskin dam and powerhouse. The project started this month (May) and will continue to 2018. It is a sight to see, next time I'm down that way I'll try to get some pictures for you.

The Ruskin Dam and powerhouse, above is Hayward lake (pre drawdown) and below is the Stave river. The salmon spawning channel and recreation site is to the lower right.

Hayward lake north today, note the fencing to keep people out. Shows the old Stave river channel before it was dammed and flooded 80 years ago.

Hayward lake south today, the dam is just out of view to the right. Sorry they wouldn't let us near it to take a photo. This is on the railway trail near the upper parking lot, the lower railway trail parking is closed and being used by the construction personel. They are supposed to be draining it to the 33 meter level.
