Author Topic: A Dad looking for no-brainer fishing spots for his kids

I know there are salmon running now, but I am looking for a place to go with my two kids to maybe catch some trout. I've heard fishing the Vedder Canal for trout right now is good, any other suggestions?

We are new to fishing this year, so any help would be appreciated.

Thanks

Thanks for the suggestion. Squamish is a bit far for us, I was thinking somewhere on the Vedder or Fraser river.

We are in Langley.

I'm not necessarily going out for salmon, I was told the Canal is like shooting fish (Trout) in a barrel.

I'm just looking for a spot that won't be too crowded and have a decent chance of catching something.

if your in langley and just looking for a puddle with some trout in it for the kids to fish. i would take them to green timbers lake in surrey, that would be lots of fun for the kids and is well away from the fraser river salmon fever.

Thanks for the suggestions everyone. Green Timbers isn't far from me at all! Didn't know the lake was there, let alone stocked it!!

If you don't mind traveling to Maple Ridge, there's some good and easy bass fishing there also. My 5 yr. old and I enjoy fishing there.
You can search this and other forums for details, or let me know you want more info.

Just got back from Green Timbers, and yes very slow, I was the only one fishing. Stocking reports show 1300 catchable Rainbow were released starting May 12th, so they are there somewhere. Heading out to Vedder Canal tomorrow, try my luck there. Any suggestions for bait, lures, strategies, techniques??

been fishing 2 years at grene timbers and yet to catch a fish. most other lakes we out fish everyone. i do see them cought but most make their own eggs and load them with stuff like cod liver oil and other oily scented stuff.
if you dont mind a bit of a drive and gaurtanteed fish and great for kida is lake of the woods just out of hope right on the hyways. some dont like it as the name is lake of the woods resort and think tis a luxury place. its not. its rustic cabin style but day fishing is great. there is parking right on side of hyway and a launch. they do rent old sad lookin canoes at the office or belly boats are most common on there. still shore fishing at the end with the rocks to
Chewy

the only sure thing we know of for the kids is lightning lake in manning park - beyond hope. the fish arent big, but they're many of them & not hard to catch at all.
