with the high water making the shuswap river almost unfishable, i thought i might try fishing in mable. have never done it before so am looking for some tips. as for where to fish, i know you either fish where the river goes into the lake at the lumby end or where it flows out at the enderby end. my question is what to use for tackle. i gather some use silver plugs......any other suggestions? is it a good idea to use a flasher in front of the plug (or whatever other lure you would recommend)? final question being how deep to fish, we have downriggers in the boat. i've heard they hang out around 100 feet, any comments/suggestions would be appreciated.

the main thing everyone uses is a green flasher with a green hoochie. fish around 50 feet. troll along the shore at the enderby side. you can get pretty close to shore since the water drops off pretty deep fast. you can see the fish roll and splash on the surface so that will give you an idea of where they are. catch and release.

just looking at the regs........daylight hours only this year, not 5 am to 10 pm as in the past. that is going to cut down the success ratio in the river as a lot of the fish are caught just before daylight and after dark. oh well, we will be able to sleep in! i note, b-man, that you caught a nice fish aug 27th, last year. have you had any luck earlier in the season?

it was the only time i have fished for chinook. its not realy my type of fishing. i prefer flyfishing on small mountain lakes.

i hate sitting in a boat for hours but love catching nice springs! i have always fished from shore with guys elbow to elbow. at least it has a social aspect when not catching anything. same guys fish there every year so everyone knows everyone. much prefer floating a mountain lake though!

it sure is fun catching them. the one i caught went on a huge run, i thought the real was going to catch fire lol.
what places do people shore fish for them on the river? i have flyfished for trout at the cooke creek area and at the chuck i think its called. you can get lots of action from trout and white fish with egg patterns while the salmon are in the river.

see brickwindows thread on "shuswap chinook". i described where most of the places are. the chuck is the biggest and sometimes most productive. if you fish some places it can be dangerous if you stumble. cooks creek is a busy place as well because of the campground. in between there is the ballpark and a few smaller holes.
