Topic: Turn over on Yellow Lake |

Can some one explain what is going on, and is this the water turning over. Today I fished Yellow Lake and normally the water temperature is within 1 degree consistent all day. I was there on Monday and it was 12C. Today it was 17C at the west end launch. As I progressed towards the other end it went down to 12C and on my return to where it was 17C, it had gone down to 13C. It was not particularly windy, overcast, and just a little rain, not enough to get wet.
I do know that due to the ice during the winter the upper level can be colder than the deeper water and at some point in time the water "turns over". Is this what was happening does anyone know?

You may be right. I have read up on this topic and critical mass is 4C, the temperature when water is most dense. I also understand that following this the lake is likely to be cloudy, full of debris from the bottom of the lake. Fish do not feed during this period and are hard to catch until the water clears.
Yellow Lake is, according to the fish finder, very cloudy at the moment and consistent with poor catch numbers. Perhaps this is the result of turn over. Yellow lake also gets full of algae but when it does this only affects the top layer and this will be later in the year.

No, it was similar last year, just trying to find the pattern here. Could have a few deaf fish though, they don't respond to my singing at the moment.
