you would be amazed as to all the different fish/things you see in those marshes. used to catch crappies by the dozen. i've had seals come right up to my canoe trying to get one off my hook! lots of deer there too.

i have spent 100's of hours out there. i've canoed all the marshes hunting and fishing.ice skating when the sloughs freeze can be fun! it has changed a lot over the last 60 years but i always get out to the pitt whenever i get down to the old stomping grounds. brings back a lot of memories! some rather wet like the time we dumped our canoe in mid march with a cold wind coming right down the pitt!!! brrr. do you ever fish at the second bridge, past neeves ? we used to cross the bridge then walk out the dyke to the right. about 3/4 mile back there was a fishing hole.got some nice cutties there when i was a kid. i am not sure the public can access the spot any more. where neaves turns into rainie, is that where the 1/4 mile used to be or is it the 3rd bridge (sturgeon slough) ?

Is it easy to shore fish that area, or do you need a boat? I'm looking for a place my son and I can go this Spring.

that marsh is called area 51 "to the best of my knowledge". i've shore fished there before but always had better luck in my canoe. funny storey about that spot, the first time i evere went bass fishing. a friend and i went down there and nailed about 20 bass, all kinds of blue gills and crappie. well i got this one crappie about 12" im use to getting trout and salmon so i didnt think much about a 12" fish. so home we went the crappie got filleted and staight into the pan it went. well about 2 months after my gf and i were getting on a flight to vegas and i grabbed a fishing mag at the news stand in the airport. when i got on the plane i opened up the mag and its this article "fishing for trophy crappie" and this guy was holding up a fish that was about the same size as this fish i had got. "the trophy fish i got and didnt take a pic of" but pic or no pic trophy or not it was a great day out fishing with my budy and an awsome dinner. lmao <*)))>< believe it or NOT
