I was at Pillings on Sunday from ~10am to ~noon. When I showed up there were about 12 guys fishing up and down the river, some fly fishing. I was using a colorado under a float and didn't catch anything. I didn't see anybody catch anything either. Then at noon I headed to Yarrow Campground. I Parked next to somebody who also was just heading in and told me that he would show me a spot. We hiked about 1/2 a mile up river and found a pool that about 10-15 people were fishing. I saw one bring in a large Spring and a couple of people hook but not bring in anything. Also, I clearly was set up for Coho, but not Spring. The guy I was with was using 40# braided test line w/ peach yarn on a large (1/0?) hook and pencil lead. I had my 12# mono line w/ colorado blade and split shot weights. I still had fun and learned a lot. Anybody has suggestions for lines that can be used for both coho and spring? Can I get away w/ 12# braided for both, or do I need more? Can you have one line and fish for both? Hope everyone did better than me.

I had a great day @ Tamahi on Saturday, caught this nice hatchery buck...along with another coho (wild), a little jack spring and a chum. I'm currently using 20lb mono (Berkley Big Game) with 17lb Stren "Super knot" for leaders. I'm yet to bust off my mainline on a fish, however I have no experience with braided line. I was actually thinking of getting some when I had my reel re-spooled at A&N but I said what the heck, 20lb mono has served me well so I'll probably just stick with it. I would recommend hitting the river at first light, especially when the water is really clear..that's when I've had the most success.

Which Tamahi? Bridge, Rapids or pool? Thanks.

Rapids (not the campground side), however I did see a few guys hook some nice coho there as well...most were lost though cause it's so hard to chase/land a fish on that side.
@theFin, Damn that spring is pretty dark!!
