Author Topic: SH.com outing anyone?
Dyer Straits

I posted this idea in another thread but I will make it official here. I am proposing an outing open to all posters on this board. It may be a good experience and a time to share tips and meet new people. I am thinking maybe a day out on the vedder next month but it is just a thought. If any of you are interested, please apply here. Any suggestions would be welcomed with open arms. I am sure that there will be enough rides for all and enough expertise between the lot of us to land a fish Just an idea, let me know what you think...
Capman

I'm in.
The Yak

I only fish stillwater so unless you guys want to change up and hit a lake I'll have to bow out gracefully. Great idea tho..
Ian

Sounds like a good idea, when and where and I'll be there.
FishFreak

Im game for that Andrew, just let me know when . give me your email address and i will give you my home phone number
Michael

I'd be up for that as well. Beware I am a fly chucker though, so watch out.

I don't get to that river much, so this would be a great opportunity.

Dyer Straits

So thats 6 so far including xjohnx...my email is dyer_straits@hotmail.com
Yak - from what I can see the majority of those here are river fisherman so I am juts trying to cater to the majority. I figure this could happen next month sometime, it would just be a matter of aranging schedules. I think a saturday or sunday would be best because many work or go to school during the week. maybe try for sunday February the 8th or maybe the 15th? any other suggestions or comments?
JoHn87

Salmon Slayer

I'm in as well Saturday The seventh is good for me I'm in Vancouver and have a crewcab pickup with a canopy so 3-4 guys could ride that. I work in the film industry though so work could get in the way. Loose plans are best for me.
Cheers boys.
JoHn87

Awsome! it looks like we got this all together eh. Is Feb.7 alright for everyone??? and also anyone have msn messanger along with their emails?
thirsty fisherman

I like the idea as well, but I might have to chuck some flies with mike,or go along with the crowdanyways i'm there pending dates
Dyer Straits

I think it would be best if we meet up at one point in the morning and split up with whoever during the day. I dont think its necessary that we meet up again on the way back...just the morning. So what time and where then? I figure 8 am at Riverside restaurant? any other opinions?
Ian

Sounds good , Sat,feb 7 @ 8am. I will be there...
Dyer Straits

bump
Max

Where is the Riverside Cafe besides "by the river"?
Dyer Straits

It is right at the vedder crossing across the bridge from freds...it is on the south side of the bridge. There is the cafe, parking lot and cabins.
Max

got it. Thx
Alex

Lot's of things happend while I was away! I am certainly in and will be happy to see you all there.

Don't forget you digital cameras, so that we can exchange photos afterwords.

Just a note: are you sure it is better to meet in the morning, rather then, say at 2:00-3:00 pm to share stories? In the morning I usually have this "fishing fever", sort of the feeling being late to start fishing ...
Michael

I am good to go either way. Don't know the river very well so just point me in the direction where I can go hunting with the fly rod.

Is Feb 7th a confirmed date now?
Dyer Straits

Alex - Those who would like to meet up in the morning whether to just say hi or hook up with a buddy or something can do that... If this is the case, I will be at riverside from about 7:30 till 8. I think your plan may be a better idea...then we are able to talk after a days fishing. Where do you propose we meet? I know riverside will not be able to accomodate us maybe just meet up at a point on the river?

Michael - I think the 7th will stand unless we have objections.
Ian

We can meet up in the morning or afternoon it doesn't matter to me whatever everyone wants to do. Just let's go fishing and have fun. If you want to meet up in the morning that cool, I'm willing to show anyone the ropes, that is new to the sport,or that doesn't know the river. Just so you have a little back ground I have fished for over twentyfive years.... Ian
Michael

I'll be at the Riverside Cafe at 7:30am. I'll be driving a green nissan pathfinder. Are we meeting inside the cafe or outside?

Dyer Straits

Well I think anybody who feels they would like to meet up in the morning can and then everyone will meet up in the afternoon. Michael I will be in the cafe. I will be driving a white oldsmobile with an N in the window and wearing a black hoodie with greyish brown breathables. I will also echo Ian's comment regarding showing somebody the ropes. Anybody have a suggestion on where to meet in the afternoon?
Ian

Parking lot at the end of lickman road, or peach , or up at on the way store .
Dyer Straits

Dyer Straits

Alright Peach Road lot is good for me. 3 pm will be the time we meet up. Alrite so this is the finalised details: Saturday Feb. 7 the members of sharphooks.com will be having a fishing get together thing. I along with a couple others will be at riverside cafe (inside) between 7:30 and 8 am. Anyone who wants to come by and have a coffee or meet up with a buddy can. Ian and I have offered to help anybody not familiar with the river or fishing rivers in general. ~fish all day~ So we will then meet up at the parking lot at the end of peach road at 3 pm to meet others and have a b.s. session. I described my car in my previous post. These are the finalised details.

Alex

Dyer, and all, here is the deal:

Since this is going to be our first outing of that sort, SharpHooks.com will pay for beer and soft drinks (let's limit our exposure to dozen jars). Drinks will be served at:

Duke's Pub
41582 Yale Road
Chilliwack
604.823.6431

Starting from 3:00 pm, February 7. Everybody is invited. Well, let's say you have to be at least registerd at SharpHooks.com

Bar is located 100 m from Hwy 1, exit 109. It is really easy to find the place.

And in the morning, February 7th from 7:30 till 8:00 am there will be some fresh coffee & muffins at Riverside Rest (Vedder Crossing).

Looking forward to see you all there and have a great day of fishing & chatting.

Dyer Straits

Sounds good to me....err one prob, gotta be 19 to get into a bar...I'm only 17
JoHn87

im 16
thirstyfisherman

not to worry, they don't call me the thristy fisherman for nothing!
Alex

Well, I just talked to the Pub manager and he told me it is Ok for minors to be at the heated patio, where they will be serving soft drinks only.

Well, kind of split, but I believe it is still better to chat under a roof rather then in the field.

Plus we all are driving, so be wise about drinking and do not exceed the allowed quota (also helps your buddies - they can have more drinks for themselves )
Dyer Straits

Good compromise Alex. See you there.
JoHn87

JoHn87

yea thats fine, i dont drink much anyways.. thanks for going through all the trouble alex
Sergio

Guys,
there is a direction map to Duke's Pub on page 4 of this topic.
I'm in
Silkin

dwg

Hey Guys,

Hpfully we can do this again before the end of steehead season..hint, hint

-DWG
Dyer Straits

Hey guys, I won't be at Riverside in the morning, can't waste precious fishing time but I'll be at the pub in the afternoon.
Michael

I am going to have to pull out. Hope to catch you next time.
FishFreak

sorry i couldnt make it i got called into work
dwg

OK, how many fish did you guys catch??
-dwg
Salmon Slayer

I got this 16 pounder at the Vedder today. Had to go early or I would have met you guys for a beer. Egg sacks close to shore got into two other fish also.
JoHn87

Salmon Slayer, were you using chum eggs? I caught none, but i had one hell of a day out there
Salmon Slayer

Yes, chum procured then about 7-9 eggs per sack, like to have a bit of size to the bait when the river is mirky.
dwg

BEEauty SalmonSlayer!!
Wow, now I'm pumped!!
Congrats!
-dwg
Salmon Slayer

Thanks dwg, I am still in shock! Hope you all can get into one like it soon, as you know. There's no fight like a steelhead battle! This will last a long time, seems I may have got my big (hatchery fish) for this year, but you never know! Now it is spelled right
Alex

This was a great day of fishing. I heard of 7 fish being caught on a strip between Gun Barrel and Twin Cedars. Played two fish myself, but forgot about 6lb leader

Regardless, this was one of the best days of steelhead fishing on Vedder.

Had a chat with other anglers about upper river, including places like Ranger Run, Prison - not much action over there. Maybe fish will move into there the next week or so.

As for the bait - roe bags and shrimp with a little bit of wool worked quite well.

Tight lines and sharp hooks!
