yesterday(17th may) while hiking on the chilliwack river trail near borden creek we encountered a big cougar about 200 ft. away on the opposite side of a beaver pond. i yelled loud and it took off.i was scared, my rotti was scared and the cougar was scared too.the next half hour of hiking was with dog on leash and hatchet in hand. very tense. there were a few steelhead still running! and lots of fry in the small creeks
