the ice will be a while on all but the biggest lakes . even large portions of shuswap lake are frozen! swan lk in vernon had vehicles driving on it just the other day! the warm weather is melting things fast though so some places it will start melting around the edges then it goes fast. even so, the lowest lakes will be a month yet i would think. will keep you posted

Hi Luke,
I was the guy with the 2 kids that met you and your grandfather on the beach at Kamloops Lake on Saturday.
Sorry to here that you did not hit any fish after I left.
I'm hoping to give it a try from the boat next week. I'll let you know how it goes.

Hi Grant nice to hear from you. Did you go back and try fishing later? I'd like to meet you down there and we could fish and you could show me a few things about the area. TTYL

yesterday i read up on ice=off fishing. at ice-off only the top 10 or 15 feet of water is oxygenated, so this is where the fish should be. the article also states that this can be a stressful time for fish and might ruin their appetites, but i would think they would be greedy/hungry

Hi Luke,
I'm planning on heading to the coast to go after some steel this weekend but if the weather looks nasty, I might check out Kamloops Lake instead. I'll stay in touch.

BTW. I forgot to mention that the name of the bay next to the mouth of the Thompson River and Tranquille Creek beach (first train tunnel) is Cooney Bay (not Kootenay Bay). It is named after the Cooney family that originally farmed the Tranquille area.

Using roe works best with a four foot leader from the weight to the 3 way swivel and only about a 10 inch leader from the swivel to the hook....just enough for them to suck it up...

Hi Luke, I didn't make it out until Monday after work. I had my kids and their friend so we had 4 lines going for about 2 hours with not even a sniff. I agree, a boat would make a big difference. If we get a calm evening this weekend, I might drag mine out. I'll let you know how it goes.
