I have just moved to Vancouver from Melbourne Australia and keen to go fishing. I normally fish off Port Phillip Bay or along the Murray River.
Cant really afford to go on a fishing charter just yet.
Can anyone suggest places I could try fishing by myself - fresh or salt. And what I should use.
Was also keen to try ice-fishing if there was somewhere around I could do it.
Or even point me towards a useful website...
Any suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks.

only other good forum i know of seems to be closed. this site is great but seems to have lost interest so not alot of updated info is on here. but when i was learniong to fish this area sharphooks was a very good base to start for finding fishing spots based on species and shows great lake maps

I just went ice fishing yesterday at Mamit Lake near Merritt.
It is only about 40 minutes north of Merritt, between Merritt and Logan Lake. First time I went ice fishing, and it was fun. Only caught 1 sucker, but some others had good luck with some rainbow trout being brought in.
Mamit Lake is right on the highway, and the ice is around 2 feet thick, so you can drive right on to the ice. Dress warm, and make sure that you have some windproof clothing.
