A buddy and I are heading up to Roche Lake for the weekend. We have not fished there before and hoped that someone could give some advice on gear and any hot spots. Thanks......Shane

Gear will depend on what you have. Remember this is a fairly large lake (at least as compared to most I fish).
Main part of the lake (by the lodge) you get a fair number of folks trolling hardware. Standard used to be willowleafs along with a weddingband and worm. Variations on this also work.
At the far end of the lake you get the flats (electric motor only area). Mostly flyfishing in here. Standard flies usually work fairly well, and you should be getting into some good fishing with the drop in temperature lately. All the regular patterns work well along with attractors like Doc Spratleys. If flyfishing make sure you have some backswimmer patterns as well, as I have seen a large number of these in the lake before, and it is heading into the time for their fall flights.
One nice area to fish is right at the start of the electric motor only area. There is a little island in the middle of lake where the emo area starts, and trolling with a fly around this area can be very productive. All around this area as well (both inside and outisde the emo area) you can get some nice fish casting towards weedy areas. Almost no folks trolling hardware here as well, which helps cut down on traffic passing you by as you try and cast.
