hi, can anybody tell me about this reel, can be used for steelhead/salmon fishing ? Im thinking of fishing with spoons, on a 8.6' 1/4-1 oz rod with 12 pounds line. for a heavier line i have other options. on the company's website there is a nice picture with a huge swordfish sugesting it was caught using this reel. ty

im sure that the ambassador is a baitcast reel, your really not suppose to use a baitcaster for fishing with spoons but it can manage the job ,cause ive caught a few coho with my calcutta400b.i use to own a red coloured abu ambassador , at first it was a solid good real with exceptional smoothness and power but as time went on problems came .theres some problem with the ambassadors that every time you reel in and out some part keeps grinding away when after a year the part was completely grinded off but they can be replaced for about 30-40$ but you see whats the point of buying a reel for 90$ but paying 40$each year on repairs on it , if your a light fisherman then this reel is good .i reconmend a higher end shimano spinning reel if your fishing with spoons.

ty coto, indeed spinnig are better for thinner line, lets say smaller than 15 lb, but i like baitcasting because they don't twist the line and allows for precise casting. the silvermax looks like was built for 12 lb, on the reel there is no indication for any other kind of line; there is 12 lb/160 yards. What i don't like at baitcasting is the price and the fact that you can't change the line on the spot. You must have couple of reels for different situations. I have a abu c3/6500 that i use it with 15 lb and an okuma for 20 lb. For spinning i use only one abu 502 alb and I have 3 extra spools and i can change the line on the spot in minutes.
