Hey everybody, I plan a trip next week (Oct 5-Oct 12) as I have a week off. My plan is to go for the big guys and , being new to this area, thought Vancouver Island should be the place to go! Do you agree? It would be so great to get information from real fishermen about locations (river, off shore), hopefully not too close to a big city. I need a place to stay and would love to get some country feeling/music! A guide/tour operator might be too expensive for my small wallet! Any ideas would be highly appreciated Thanks in advance! Marc

The Campbell River is good right now. Big springs in behind the quiny bar. Its just past Canadian tire on the right. The oyster is always good for some pink actions. If you go out on the ocean, try the hump (for good advise try Tyee Marine in Campbell River) Or go west coast, Port Alberni ect... But I suggest talking to the tackle shops in the area your going to. Mid to late November in the Seymore Narrows (north of Campbell River)Is awesome for fresh chum!!Hope this helps some!

Hey Troutslayer, Thank you! Oh, yes that really helps. I will go there. And thanks for the companys name, if possible I will contact them also! The quiny bar, is it the one right on the island highway? And where is the Oyster? Just one more question: Do you know anything about the Gold River area? Thank you again. Marc

Campbell River, Quinsum hotel ( quiny) is on the bypass just passed spit rd.on the right.Gold River is an awesome door way to places like Friendly cove, Nootka Island ect. The Oyster River is located 34 km south of Campbell River (old Highway) The Sayward area is good aswell.(north of CR) The Salmon river is one of the best steel head rivers in BC. You could even go as far as Port Mcneil of Port Hardy ( both have good fishing) If you have a boat all these places will produce good numbers. If your just river fishing, the Gold and Campbell rivers are doing very good right now. The Oyster has loads of pinks and now the coho are in (not such a huge fishery). Contact Tyee in CR,or pete's sporting goods in Courtaney, I am not sure of the names of the shops in gold river (google works well) good luck, let me know how you do!
