Author Topic: Place to fish

Hey I'm looking for a place to fish either a lake or river within a 1 1/2-2 drive of Surrey. I'm being kicked out for a day and thought I would go toss a fly around. I have 4 wheel drive if needed. I was thinking Harrison or the Skagit?

well lafarge in coquitlam, buntzen in port moody
and ya can't fish harison or scagit till july 1st

I'll pass on Lafarge and Buntzen. I won't be going any where till after the weekend anyway.I believe the most openings are on the 1st anyway. Buntzen is okay but the fishing is for the stocked rainbows that don't have much of a fight.

How difficult is it getting to the Skagit? Has anyone fished off the Cap lately?

The Skagit is very easy to get into. The road is Gravel most of the way, the first 2kms is paved and then depending on how far you go it is a good gravel road. The road goes all the way to the border (Approx 50kms), I have gone in with my car many times. There is quite a bite of washboard in the road but besides that is very good.
The best fishing is usually from Strawberry, south to Ross lake. Make sure to bring a TON of replant because the Mosquitoes are unreal.

I'm pretty sure harrison doesn't have a spring closure...I was lookin everywhere in the regs.
Skagit does though for sure...if you can clarify that'd be awesome for everyone...even though it's just a matter of waiting a few days now.

chinook and steel are in the local rivers, caught a steely up the chehalis canyon last sunday first cast, but that was it. chinook can be had at most creek mouths on the fraser right now.

Well went back to "The spot" today with my Dad and hooked into another dozen rainbows, 3 of them being of a good size. I'm also glad say they are all still swimming in the river. Nothing like fish on the fly!

Nopers, i live and work in Tsawwassen.

Luis you had given some advise a while back to someone else on reading the river color and flow. As I remember you had said if the water was silted you would fish deeper rather than going with a dry fly.

The other item you mentioned was to always keep your good places a secret. (Sorry guys I'm keeping this place to myself)

On a side note Luis, Do you work at a retail store in
New West?
Louis Vuitton

Where abouts was that, and which advice did you use? Im just curious to know why I can give advice that shows results but it never works for me...lol

try green timber I just caught 2lbs stock rainbow or try hi-knoll park.
exkamiflyfisher

where'd you end up goin?

Well after some advice from this site and a few other people I decided to head out fishing today to do some fly fishing. As you can see it was a good day. There is nothing better that sunshine, lots of flowing water, fish and the whole place to myself. Thanks to Louis for some advice.
