Do you need a boat to fish at Fish Trap Creek? What kind of bait are you using?
troutslayer
No boat needed! I was fishing off the pier and off the little bridge but you could fish anywhere on this creek!there is another half across Old Yale rd. I use a panther martin with a tail of real worm! works great!
Big_Fish22
why is the water so low though lol
troutslayer
Its a low flow creek! Dont let the low water level fool you.I have caught large mouth bass there and the biggest was around 6 lbs. I have heard from a few that there are bass up to 10 pounds in there.

I was there yesterday with no luck! I was using everything from Rapala, Blue Fox and Power Bait. May be it was the rain! Any tips!

I was also there yesterday in the evening (from around 7pm til 10pm) and caught nothing. We saw a few jump but had no luck with spoons, flatfish, wedding bands, powerbait, spinners, and a few other things. I would also appreciate any suggestions or thoughts. Thanks

i must have been in the wrong place there then cuz that place is un-fishable. i was right near the baseball diamonds and there is a big peir there. there wasnt even a meter of water in there....
ric
A meter of water is still plenty, I've caught bass in water less than a foot in depth. Keep trying!
Big_Fish22
alright lol i still donno about that place....it seems kinda...fishy.get it? fishy?
basshole
hahaha I went there yesterday and it looked like a real slough....but hey, bass dig that warm nasty water, I also didnt even give it a shot cause I coundnt find any access but it sounds like I should give it a chance
Big_Fish22
thaqts what i mean lol. i couldnt find any axxes to the deeper water in the middle
troutslayer
I will say it again. Go off the pier or that little bridge, use a small spinner with a piece of worm. All you need to do really is just a short cast and a jigging action! DONT LET THE SHALLOW WATER FOOL YOU!!!!
Big_Fish22
okay lol

I was there today fishing off the pier at fishtrap...threw some BANJO MINNOWS at them (lol remember that info-mercial?) they weren't having any of it...banjo frog...nothin..carolina rigged white worm...nothin. They looked at everything (saw three good sized ones by the sunken computer monitor) then went the opposite direction! Are they ever hungry or aggressive?
Tried Mill lake aswell...seems the only place people get hits is off the warf...anyone ever get any bass in the shallows? what works there?

use a float and twich it every 5-10seconds or so. It doesn't really matter what usually you are going too fast cause you are scared of snagging the shallow water. I might drop by there in the near future so i'll tell you how it was
exkamiflyfisher
No i was fishin weedless and goin pretty slow. But maybe I don't know what the definition of slow is. The the banjo minnows and carolina rig are both weedless so I'd cast, let it hit bottom, wait about 15 seconds and jerk. probably jig every 5-10 seconds after that. Still too quick? Ever been there when they are smashing everything?
troutslayer
here is one from today at fish trap using a panther martin and worm!
troutslayer
exkamiflyfisher
nice man! you were fishin it slow? or just a normal retrieve? right off the end where the sunken monitor is?
exkamiflyfisher
what type of panther martin? color?
troutslayer
Yellow and crome panther martin and at the end of the pier out past that monitor with a very slow jig and reel action
exkamiflyfisher
right on. did you keep it or throw it back? get any others?
troutslayer
throw it back ( always )
exkamiflyfisher
good good...yeah I think I may head out there tomorrow and give it another go.
troutslayer
Let me know how you did!!! Take a picture!
exkamiflyfisher
i hate this lake. got a black and gold panther martin with worm...nothin. bite on the banjo minnow-i didnt let him eat it long enough to get the entire minnow in his mouth before setting the hook. same goes for a salt n pepper 3.5in tube. saw this fish, he was no more than 8 inches...
i give up!
exkamiflyfisher
i couldnt remember what color you recommended...i fished for about two hours then went over to crappytire and picked up some gear. for some reason i thought you said black. blah
Big_Fish22
would any crankbaits work in there?like a rapala original floater?... would anyone reccomend me using my baitcasting reel or my spincasting reel there. because i always see the pro bass fishermen using baitcasting reels. oh and nice hog there troutslayer!
troutslayer
A spinning reel is fine.If you go tho the pier and put on a small spinner with some worm. cast to the sunken monitor and reel back towards the left hand pillar SLOWLY,you might have some luck.Or may be I should go there and show you all how to do it?(ha ha just kidding)
Big_Fish22
hahah thanks for the info.but where is the sunken monitor lol
troutslayer
straight off the pier.15 ft out

Ok so this place looks like the holding pond for enemas r us. I think somewhere in there it is possible that fish may exist, however it would seem that the panther martin + worm thing is the way to go. I threw my entire tackle box into that festering slime pit, one piece at a time. The closest I came to catching something was when I almost lassoed a baby duck.{accidentally}. Here are the pics I took. This is looking to the right, from the pier. West I think.

And finally, down to the infamous monitor.
troutslayer
At the monitor and reel towards the left corner of the pier. Those bass seem to hang out on that corner or right beside that monitor!
ric
Does the monitor still work?
exkamiflyfisher
yeah i see those dirty little green buggers in that hole to the left of the monitor...they move around though. it's almost pointless to be fishing unless you can see them there. I haven't had a bite yet where I haven't been able to see the fish first. basically, i hate this toilet bowl.
Big_Fish22
i told u all it looks kinda un-promising(troutslayer) lol im still gonna try it tho
exkamiflyfisher
Im sure there are a few fish in there...just never can find where they hold. So far they haven't seemed that aggressive-maybe it's still too cool? I just always thought bass were more wolf-like...I have caught a few in the states in july/aug and they would go out of their way to hit a spinner bait...here they look then swim the other way. the lack of variation in this pond makes it less fun to fish
troutslayer
I dont seem to have a problem catching fish there(pictures to prove it)The best times to go are after a few days of some good heat!!!!! But I will meet up with you if you want, you know.....to show you how its done! ha ha ha

Big_Fish22
LOL i was there today and i left it was soo gay! i couldnt even see any fish in there.its the biggest waste of time ever
exkamiflyfisher
yeah it blows goats. I think troutslayer uses a gillnet and uses the magical "yellow panther martin" as a cover up
Big_Fish22
you gotta be right! man i used a panther martin there and if you reel in slow ull snag weeds on the bottom
troutslayer
Now now guys.
troutslayer
I am not misleading anyone. People were asking about it and I just gave my 2 bits and a few pictures of some big bass!
Big_Fish22
not to be rude here buddy but u gotta admit that is a gay ass place to fish... i looked and there were no fish by that monitor...the water is so close to being able to dry up its not even funny, and u can only catch ducks and weeds there. so to some people by looking at your posting may think this is a great place to fish and go and be totally disappointed.not to put the spotlight on you troutslayer honestly, but i was kind of misled myself,as it seems with a few other people here.and i do feel bad if i made u feel guilty here troutslayer but seriously lol,the place sucks

Then don't fish it anymore. Stop going there and making reasons to complain. Children complain. Children wine and cry over such simple and silly things. If you don't like it, don't go there. Action and reaction- Causality. Go->get skunked->get upset->complain. Go somewhere else->catch fish-->be happy-->write a report.
It amuses my how people get so upset over such silly things. Its really quite lame. We have a beautiful country full of water and someone decides to fish a "bad spot" and they get all upset. Go fish somewhere elses. It's not like we have a shortage of lakes and streams. Anyways, my White Cloud Moutain Minnows are finally breeding so im going to go watch them and then seperate the eggs so they don't eat them.
Big_Fish22
well luis i know u have respect on this site...but that does NOT give u a right to sit up on your high horse and critisize what i say. all i am doing is telling people fact about that place. and i never said we have a shortage of lakes and streams... im not trying to start a war here or anything but cmon man...take a look this is the most active post there has been on this site in a long time. so please dont come in,in a foul mood, and ruin it. and i forgot to mention...i have respect for you as you ahve helped me with some questions in the past.but still i wasnt whining or complaining.so dont take this in the wrong way.
thanks

Hey why should I feel guilt? I never once said this place was the best place for bass or did I say you should go here!I have just answered some questions and now I should feel guilt?? This is a site for asking questions and sharing photos and what not. Thats ALL I have done. No guilt here and I have not lost any sleep over it!

Hey Big_fish22. were you the one who started this Topic? So dont tell me that I have miss lead you.You asked how to get there!
ric
Well troutslayer, I guess all the negativity towards Fishtrap can only mean one thing, more fish for you! You've proved there's fish in there with photos, you tell the guys what works, there's nothing else for you to do. Also, there are other areas to be fished at this creek, you just gotta look. I have fished a few other spots with success, and two years ago a even caught a cutty. For all the other guys, there's always Albert Dyck Park (boorrriinnnng).
troutslayer
No kidding eh!
Big_Fish22
well if you read my last post you will see i stated that i dont want to start a war...so why are people getting so worked up???

hows fish trap creek now?

Anyways...there's plenty of Largemouth Bass in Fishtrap Creek. I've fished there once, and caught one on pretty much every single cast.
This is of course in the summer, when they're most active. Bass fishing is only good around here from about May to Oct. Once the water cools off, the bass aren't active.
mclovin777
Theres so many lilypads now. What kind of lure did u use?
sam6140
oh i know there always is so many lily pads. You gotta cast into the open areas, right next to the lily pads, if you want to fish trouble free. Or fish weedless.
I was using a simple worm and bobber. They can't resist that.

how is fishtrap creek fishing for bass....where do people usually go
Dylb
I was there yesterday out of curiosity, I had never been before. Water was low, and the lily pads were in full invasion mode, hardly any access anywhere. I did manage to find one clear spot on the opposite side of the main pier but had no luck. On my way out I passed a cesspool of an area (3-4 feet of water at deepest, plus a food of mud) and could see lots of surface activity. Threw out a couple wedding rings and had a small bass or pumpkinseed nearly every time.
People sure look at you like you're an idiot for fishing there! Good laugh
