Foreign news agencies reported from Singapore on January 31 that the International Monetary Fund (IMF) forecasts the economic growth of the "ASEAN 5" comprising Singapore, Malaysia, Vietnam, Indonesia and the Philippines. It will expand at 4.3% this year, down from the 4.5% forecast in October last year, while the 2024 forecast fell 0.2% to 4.7%.
The overall economic growth forecast for the 10 Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) member states this year is 5.2%. It is likely to grow 1.5% this year, down from the 2.3% expected in October last year.
However, the IMF concluded that “Geopolitical fragmentation” in the world economy That will grow only 2.9% this year, before rebounding to 3.1% next year, is considered a "negative trend" for all sectors. And China has just officially opened the country on Jan. 8, although Vietnam's economy has benefited from moving supply out of China. Resulting in a high growth of 8% last year. But the IMF forecasts this year's outlook at 5.8% due to inflation.
