nice fish Alex, were you fishing the gut of the run up near the top or down in the tailout? I know there are usually some coho sitting in the tailout. Looks like the big springs have arrived so you gotta go find the pocket water for the hos. Good report!

Hmm, the only fish which I would normally try to get in the tail of a run would be Steelhead. Other fish stay in the tail for spawning and it is too late to get them there.
This time I was trying the upper section of the pool. It was a lot of fun playing those small springs.
Large ones are staging in the pools, such as Boundary Hole, Tamahi Bridge, Bell Acres, Vedder Crossing and Keith Wilson Bridge.
Finding Coho is more challenging. Right now you can find them in rapids, behind rocks. Strategy is simple - cast in fron of the rock, then let it drift on the other side and slowly pull it through the tiny pool behind the rock. Roe works better, though requires more effort to change it often

Well Alex I think you are right about the tailout, it is where fish tend to dig redds but in certain situations coho will hold there, especially after traversing a large set of rapids, slowly moving into the pool. I find they like to sit at the back end of the pool where it is still deep but there is a lessened current.
