The AFP news agency reported that The United States is seeking to put more pressure on the junta through the United Nations (UN) forum and urged the international community not to endorse Myanmar's general elections scheduled for next year.
Derek Chollette, Advisor to the US Department of State which led the US diplomatic action on Myanmar. During the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) in New York City It said on Sept. 22 that there was widespread recognition that the military regime needed to feel more pressure. It raised frustration at the recent air strikes in Myanmar that left 11 school children dead and the execution of four Myanmar pro-democracy activists by the military junta.

Earlier that same day, UN Special Rapporteur on Human Rights in Myanmar, Thomas Andrews, also warned that Elections will also involve fraud.
