Under Scots law, the crown can profess any archaeological items found in Scotland. Finders have no possession rights, and must report any objects to the treasure trove unit. However, the man may receive an award of the same value of the jewellery.
A historian, Fiona Watson, told BBC Radio Scotland: "It belongs to the crown, and the crown at the discretion of Her Majesty can pay money over to the finder to the market worth. I am sure that is what will occur. The key query then is what will happen to this extraordinary find. Where will it go?" https://www.a1mint.com/
