Hey i might head up to deer lake, como lake or any other lakes around vancouver for fishing. i was wondering if sweet corn would be a good bait, and how the setup should be. and which lake would be good to fish off the dock for carp or rainbows. thanks
The Yak

To fish in como lake you must be over 65 under 16 or disabled so try another... my suggestion is Burnaby Lake if you're looking for carp
JoHn87

thatd be deer lake, and is there any carp and trout there at this time?
JoHn87

Thanks a lot!

To the guy asking how to fish for carp...

I saw a carp fishing show and they got those little yellow ear plugs and cut them into corn sized chunks. they then put a piece of this yellow foam on the hook with 3-4 kernels of corn. With a weight 2" from the hook and the yellow foam, the presentation would float just off bottom. If they were in a weed bed, they would mover the weight down the line and float the bait over the weeds....neat little system.

Good luck and let us know how you do.

in burnaby lake try the shallows near the lilly pads before the rowing clubs dock. they get very big in there.

A friend of mine who is currently working in CHina is going to bring me back one of the carp rods they use over there... it's telescopic and it 40 feet long.. and comes with a hand carved wooden box that holds the floats it comes with.

35 bucks canadian and he said that the quality of the rod is no different than some of the top rods you can buy here. Not that ive ever seen a 40 foot carp rod here but you know what i mean..

cant wait to get it on May 19th... ill post more details when i get it if anyone is interested in seeing some pictures or such..

The Yak

pretty sweet eh?..
el-nino2010

who says size doesn't matter. you can poke an eye out with that giant rod. so yak what are the advantages of using that setup here. most carp are usually in shallow water and sloughs.
el-nino2010

i guess those rods are adequate for carp like these.
badboi

so could he get a second rod? ELnino : where was that carp caught? If you want a secure payment i could pay you with paypal or cash. I would really like a pole though.
let me know

badboi.... he sez he's'got to bring back way too much stuff to start adding things on... he's heavy mechanic and has to bring back a lot of tools, computers and crap... so adding anything more is not a good idea...

sorry dude.. i tried
badboi

Fishing a lead so close to the hook is what is known as a "bolt rig"
Are there any other lakes that hold Carp in numbers other than Burnaby lake??
badboi

deer lake has some before dusk they are jumping like mad

I know hatzic lake has mega carp.I went to the maria slough on seabird island 1 month ago. There were so many carp i could have caught them by hand. Tip:1 bread works really well to catch carp.2:I saw a guy at morris lake catch one huge on a white fly.Poor guy had a flyrod and it slammed it.I though it would break. He was in a float tube and he had to come to shore so i could help he unhook this 10 pound + beast.3: I've been told that there super boney and you should filet them. Then put in tuperware to soak in milk. After 24 hrs you go back and the milk is so brown. But the meat is white and good to eat,so i've heard.

Is there any areas to fish Hatzic lake from the shore? Obviously close to where the Carp hang out
Sturgeon Rider

Ya there is right of highway seven. It's right before you see the lake,If your heading west. There is a small opening were you can walk down to an area in tall grass. You have to park just off the road. This spot is more like a small slow moving cannel just off the lake.I noticed guys were bottom fishing with corn for bait.Hope this helps you out!
craftycarper

Thanks I'll check it out!!
