Chinese scientists develop The 'robot fish' eats microplastics.
Chinese scientists fromSLOTXO TRUE WALLETSichuan University southwest of the country developed a fish robot capable of removing microplastics from the aquatic environment
Researchers working on the project said: Such robots could help eliminate plastic pollution in the oceans around the world. The fish robot, made from a soft chemical compound, is about 1.3 centimeters long and is designed to absorb microplastics as they move through the water.
The researchers said Such a robot works well in shallow water. And they plan to do more testing in deep water.
The fish robot was created to eliminate microplastics smaller than 5 millimeters. Studies have confirmed that microplastics have been found to pollute many natural environments. These microplastics come from the decomposition of manufactured plastic products as well as industrial waste.
The American Chemical Society says the robot can be controlled by light. from opening and closing The "short-range infrared laser" will cause the fish's tail to move around. It can also swim as fast as 2.76 body length ratio per second. The researchers say the robot fish swim faster than most similar soft robots.
Wang Yuyan, a member of the research team at Sichuan University. told Reuters that Small, lightweight robots are currently being used to collect microplastics for research studies. And it is planned to expand such applications to allow fish robots to remove more microplastics from the deep ocean.
The researchers went on to say that Robot fish can eliminate many types of microplastics. They can also repair themselves if damaged. And if the fish robot is accidentally eaten by a real fish It can be digested safely.
Wang went on to say that Researchers may be able to develop a similar robot. Then put it in the human body to get rid of unwanted materials or diseases.
The scientists report their findings in a new study published in the journal Nano Letters of the American Chemical Society, a US government-funded non-profit organization.
