Dennis , trout bite all year long in any water they habitat. Their metabolism slows down but they still eat . For lower mainland lakes check stocking reports to see if any catchables have been stocked recently or just fish your favorite spots. A worm or other bate under a float should get some action.

What cagey said. My only experience is that once the urban lake gets very cold or frozen they can be more difficult to catch, but plenty of folks do very well ice fishing outside urban areas.

I guess those coastal hatchery fish are too lazy in the winter. As a kid I used to fish up in the lakes around maple ridge like Blaney and Loon which are now closed and Mikes or Rolley , and caught trout all year round . The usual bate was a worm under a float. The fish are slow in the winter but if you put a bate in front of them they will bite. The problem down there now as I understand is the lakes are stocked on a stock and catch basis so if they have not been recently stocked there won't be many fish.
