Author Topic: Boss Lake and general stocking question

Back in June I posted this report; however, I don't think it made it to the top of the Forum:

My son and I were at Boss Lake last weekend. A few observations.
-Not crowded. We were at the site on the north side of the lake and there were only about 6 other campers. On the lake was about 5 or so boats at a time.
-Mosquitos!
-Fishing was bad. Saw one fish being caught and someone else said they caught 3. We didn't have any bites. Two people said they limited out 2 and 3 weeks ago w/ large fish.

The fish stocking report says that 6K yearlings (18g) were released 6/12. I thought this lake would freeze solid over the winter and everything die off. I guess I'm wrong?

Still had a good time.

Following up on my fish stocking question: I would think all the fish would die every year; however, I guess not? I've heard people say that stocked trout cannot reproduce in lakes w/o streams. True?
cagey

most of the stocked fish do not reproduce....triploids or whatever.
as for winter kill, most lakes do not suffer any. Some lakes are prone to it but rather than try to give a wrong explanation why I will not except to say some shallow lakes are prone.

Thanks.

Ya, I like solitude also but I also like smaller lakes. I might try again next year, earlier in August.
