As I look out my window I see snow falling. I still have a foot to melt. The lake across the road has shown no sign of starting to melt around the edges although a couple of small ponds/lakes in the area are starting. I'd guess 2 more weeks until ice off which will be the latest in 10 years.
All is not lost! I cured a bit of my need to fish by spending he last two afternoons sitting on the shores of the South Thompson . I was rewarded by 3 silver bullets over the 2 days, all about 1 pound or more. Very tasty!I even saw a CO out looking for fishermen to check. I was his first in 4 hours of looking.
Now if the ice will disappear I can try out all those flies I have tied over the long winter.
Anyone with any spring stories to tell?

Spring is finally showing signs of arriving. As Gearbox pointed out
on another post referring to Stump Lake, the ice is finally coming off the lower /mid level lakes . The ice on the lake I live by (Phillips Lk.) is the latest it has been in 10 years. It should be off by Sunday, 10 days later than last year, the previous latest date. Two years ago March 6th was ice off but the "normal" date is April 1st. The snow is finally starting to disappear too so when the fishing finally arrives, so will all the work! I hate late springs! (can's wait until those August springs are biting though!)

Sounds like things are similar over Merritt way to here. The lake continues to move towards "ice off" but it is slow. When it takes until noon to start melting , things go slow!
I'm still hoping to try out my new flies by Monday.
Gearbox, a friend said Shuswap is fishing petty well. I'm hoping to get an invite next week to try some of the buck-tails I tied this winter. They look good to me but I'll have to see if the fish think so!

I'll let you know if/when I get out. The weather is miserableagain today.
For those wondering about fishing opportunities, I drove by Joyce and Pillar Lakes today. Joyce is 4 or 5 days from ice off while Pillar is still frozen solid and will likely be about 10 days. spring is very late this year!

Does this help?

Sorry could not resist. Our rivers will be blown soon and I will be hankering for some lake fishing very soon.

Gorgeous fish. Makes me jealous. It froze good here again last night so the "ice off" will be a day later yet Id guess. Never ends!

Finally, open water! The ice is off Fleming Lake (east end of Turtle Valley, the "pond" by the cattle guard) and almost off Phillips Lake. There is still lingering ice in the middle of Phillips but it should be gone by tomorrow. Now if it will warm up and quit raining
I might get to do some fishing!

Gearbox, about Shuswap, I am going to give it a try Wednesday but my buddy says it has been VERY slow, nothing over 50 cm.
Spring is finally here. Most low to mid level lakes should be ice free in the Kamloops /Vernon area should be ice free now but anything higher up is a good 2 weeks behind "normal" I'd suspect. Merritt is likely similar but I'll leave that to Gearbox.

My day fishing on the big lake got cancelled due to a wheel bearing problem but it sounds like it would be a waste of time. My buddy was out all day yesterday without a bite. Similar reports from other boats. As you said, it will be a couple of weeks still. I was down at the South T. the other day. No fry at all yet.

When you say coquihalla lakes, which lakes do you mean? I drove past the Kane Valley lakes last week and all were off?

Sorry, I only just figured that out driving past them this weekend. The one you can see from the highway as you drive by was half off. could be gone by now.

I went to Roche, which has been off for a while and has just finished turning, if that helps.
