Hey fellow fisherman, I know it has been a late spring here in BC. I'm going to be heading out to Mable lake to try trolling fliea/micro leaches this upcoming Saturday. Was just wondering if anyone has been out fishing there this year yet, and if so how was your luck and what were you using. Thanks all.

No reason for it to be any different than last year. Bucktailing should be good.
Knnn

Bucktailing, er WAT? No heard that term before, what does it mean?
prunehands

Bucktails are large flies that were popular decades ago for coho in the salt.Often trolled fast on the surface near river mouths. They have become more of a fresh water tactic for the large bows in big lakes.

Lol, it is not 3am
Knnn

Thanks. I had heard of bucktails for coho in the salt but never applied in freshwater. Yeah I was not up that late either.

Made out great. Ended up with 5 in the boat. Gonna get the smoker going next weekend. Got one 5 pounder too

Looks like it went great.

KNN, if you check out my profile there are some photos of bucktails I tied that have produced some nice fish. I have trolled them on the surface going fast, especially good when there is a chop on the water, with good results but have also put a couple of ounces of weight on and trolled regular speed.Works well in Shuswap and Okanagan Lakes.

Good day fishing Branfish. I was confident you would have a good day as Mable is always fun at this time of the year. What was the lucky fly/lure?
Branfish

Ya it was a great day. I was using a purple egg sucking leech pattern. My dad was using a black micro leech. He had just as many bites. Just didn't haul them all in.

Mable Lk. trout are very tasty. Hope you did not smoke them all !
Branfish

Ya they are tasty. I only ended up keeping two of them. Will smoke them both this Sunday.... But am heading back out to try my luck again this Saturday.
cagey

How did you make our Branfish?
Branfish

Hey sorry for the late reply. We did very well. Brought about 11 in the boat.
cagey

Great day. Mable is such a nice lake , of the big lakes, to fish.
And the fish are so tasty !
