One day after work a buddy and I decided to go throw gear at the water in the hopes of playing a couple of pinks. We headed over to Delta a little west of the Alex Fraser bridge. On the way we bought a couple of subs and when we arrived needed a few minutes to finish eating them. In the time it took to wolf down the last few bites the 3 guys fishing in front of us caught a combined total of 11 fish. Right on we thought. This should be fun! Well being a somewhat impatient kinda guy, I asked if anyone would mind if I sqeezed in and all responded that there was lots of room, come on down.My buddy was re-rigging and not ready to go. I stepped up and on my second cast thought I hit a snag. I gave a mighty pull in the hopes of pulling free. Much to my suprise my reel began to scream and my "snag" tore off 50 yards of line.I thought to myself pinks don't do that, so I yelled out spring on. Nobody believed me. One gent said he had been there all day & nobody had caught anything but pinks. 2 or 3 minutes later my crome beauty tail walked about 15 feet across the surface. All of a sudden they believed me and all reeled in to let me battle my fish. 15 minutes later it was on the bank & I was damn near doing cartwheels down the road.My buddy decided that anything else at that point would be anti-climactic so we packed up & headed home. Total time there....25 mins. total catch..... 1 bright cromer, 18 lbs. 34 inches. I expect that if I fish for the rest of my life I will not be able to reproduce that days events. In the hope of coming close I continue to try. Tight lines ya'll.

Wow, you tha man. What a great story. Sounds like such a fun time. I never have that kind of luck. I spend sometimes all day on the waters without a bite, im not able to fish that often so i dont have much experiance. Well done mate.

I have learned that often it isn't what you use, but where you use it. Tossing gear at empty water is just casting practice.

in summer 2003..the same thing happened to me. guys around me were catching pinks as was my intention. i believe it was my fifth cast and i hooked into a 26lb spring chrome silver and green. it did not fight much as i just winched it in with my rod. one fellow helped out with the net and it was landed. 2 days before i was also out there and managed to land a 10lb sockeye on a silver red bead spinner in a school of pinks. will never beat the success of 2003.

Empty water means that there is nothing in it to catch.
