Still slow. Ive been fishing it all week. Seen a few tiny coho caught around 1 lb. But the amount of fish caught vs number of people fishing is about 1 fish per 25 people ive seen. Water is fishable but not perfect. Ive yet to get one and I often fish from 4:30 am until mid afternoon. Good luck.
Adamski76

Thanks for the update and I'm headding out tomorrow regardless of the weather...I will post an updated when I get back.
Bckidfisher69

I wouldnt bother fishing it because the water level is low and the measuring thing(http://www.vankayak.org/capcam/)is at 2 and usualy the best time is when its at 5.
Adamski76

Got up in the morning before five and headed out to the cap. The weather wasn't to bad and the little drizzle didn't bother me much. The river is still a little low and not much coho going up although I did see a few little fish pushing up. The best part of the morning were the 3 steelhead I saw swimming around in a pool...couple of them looked around 6-8 lbs. All in all if was a good morning but no fish landed. I think we still need to wait a few more weeks untill it really picks up.
aaronwilde

I did the same rode my bike to cable pool. Arived at 4:15am. Fished from 4:30am till about 11:00am. Roe and lures.. Few early morning bites but the few coho in there arent biting. Saw a steelie too but theyre all in spawning mode and wont bite either. I moved down to 3 rock after 11am for a few more hours and saw 3 spawning steelies in the shallows playing around lol. Defintely still pretty empty of the cohos.
alexfromrichmond

Was at cap on 24th by rabbit place around 6am - 10-15 ppl per pool turned around and went to under hwy1 bridge , hiked for 30 mins - same situation ... got to a pool that got a cable line across , landed 1 coho right away , bud beside me didn't have any raw , so I gave him mine - he landed 1 right away . after a bit I landed second one ... from 7-8am .. after was dead ....

Went today to the same spot at 5am . water was lower and me and 3 other guys got no bites at all ... NO ACTION . 1 dude landed 1 baby coho and 3 ran away from him ... but he had to go from pool to pool crossing river and he did work on fishing

according to Vancouver tide levels fri-sun will be highest tide at 5am+ ... but no rain will try to go sat-sun ...

p.s. if any1 willing teach me how to use bailcasting reel vs spinner - will help a lot

p.p.s. also looking for friendly ppl to go fishing every weekends to cap from early 4-5 to at least noon .
aaronwilde

I go early at 4:30 am usually but i missed this weekend unfortunately. I can fish weekends with ya. I live very close to the cap.
alexfromrichmond

it woud be nice , if u don't mind teaching me some stuff , im kinda just started and pretty new to this .
aaronwilde

I am still learning the Cap myself too. I haven't got a Coho yet and I go quite often.
Bckidfisher69

Go across the bridge above the cable pool and go down the trail and find a nice non crowded fishing spot. There are lots a fishing spots on the cap it just requires some bush wacking.Last year around this time i had a spot all to myself and i ended up landing 6 and loosing 7 all on small spoons with 4 lb fluro leader and 6 lb mono main line.
Bckidfisher69

And just saying these fish arent babys, its an early run of coho unlike most rivers around here. They dont spend as much time in the saltwater and come in as jacks. Now the biggest would be around 8 lbs and like 90% of the fish now are about 2-3 lbs.
chronicfish

First light is key for the cap.if you fly fish you will want a full sink line.
alexfromrichmond

aaron ill be heading to cap in Saturday around 4.30-5.00 am ... if u don't mind newbie let me know I use spinner + float + fisheggs ... that did a trick for me for my 2 first coho`s of this season
alexfromrichmond

any chance any1 can give me map of cap river with pools in it starting from keith to rabbit ?
Fish_Whisperer

alexfromrichmond

ty very much )
aaronwilde

I moght not be around this weekend. I have fished the cap 10 times this month at 4:30am usually cable pool with roe and spinners and javent got 1 yet. Seen them but no takes. Fly guys with full sink show up at 10 and get one pretty quick then I leave. Do they bite in lower pools tham cable pool in the day even?
alexfromrichmond

I got mine by keith rd , 10 mins walk from bridge .... used row ... can show u the spot if u want ... dude next day got 1 too the same spot , but he had to cross to fish tail off pool ...

hrenya_k@yahoo.ca

whisper if u want that spot on map .
bassmaster5000

How is fishing the cap right now any luck
aaronwilde

Not good at the cable pool. Was there again yesterday at 4:30am fishing till 1pm and didnt get shit. Fly fishing.. Tried all kinds of flies. Its a little disappointing because I have rode my bike at that time to fish about 11 times over the last month and a half and havent got a coho yet random people show up at 10am with fly gear and get one. And sometimes on roe too. And people are for the most part so up tight about info. Its like its a big secret and they dont want to share how they succeed. Its no wonder the world is the way it is. People are greedy as hell. Ill figure it out eventually and share my success with people
Bckidfisher69

Its easy get a leader about 4lb flurocarbon with a sink tip or full sink with olive wooly buggers coho bugger?christmas trees etc.
aaronwilde

I'm using 10lb seaguar red as leader (8lb diameter). Maybe that is whats wrong.. It seems pretty invisible looking in the water though.

And it is not "easy"... many skilled (or at least semi-skilled) people fish the cap half the day every day and don't get a thing. It takes luck too!
Bckidfisher69

These fish are locked jawed because they see line and lures all day.If you use 4lb fluro it wont be as visible. If you ever see the short kid fly fishing at the back of the cable pool thats me.
Art81

If you think people are going to share their secrets with you then you have A LOT to learn about fishing. Why would anyone in their right mind tell you their spots and secrets? So you can beat them to the spot and catch fish before them? So you can tell everyone on this forum where these spots are and how to fish them so that next time there's 20+ guys shoulder to shoulder? It's not about being greedy, it's about being smart. I went to my "secret" spot in the canyon last week and there were 12 guys there and 3 more came in after. This is a spot that I never saw anyone fish 3 years ago. It's not even that great, I would just go there to get away from people. So it's ignorant people like you that are ruining it for everyone else.
cagey

your secret spot was well known when I a kid and that was a long time ago !!
Too bad you are so greedy you will not share your knowledge. Aaron was not asking for your favourite spot, just simple knowledge . Come on, get a life!
alexfromrichmond

I agree with Cagey . Where is no secret spots on Cap
And I guess I was lucky that so far I never met people thinking the way like Art81 .
aaronwilde

Yeah i didnt mean that people are greedy for not showing me secret spots and becoming my fishing master sensay lol. Just when we are hanging out at the cable pool chatting and a guy pulls in beside me mid day and catches one and seems polite from how we are talking but when i ask him about his leader/fly he gets passive agressive.. And that happens quite often. I mean hey they dont have to share but damn what is this a hunt for survival? I dont post secret spots on the forums either. I would share tips if people need them though, guess that makes me ignorant. Wish everyone was as ignorant as me
Bckidfisher69

Im probably gonna make it out to the cap after school tomorow but i wont be fishing the cable pool.
alexfromrichmond

bckid wanna join up on Saturday morning to fish lower river early in a morning ? I got time till 8-30 to kill , after will head to rice lake by 9 am for trout

p.s. in a nooby though .
alexfromrichmond

I hear u aaron but like I said I guess im lucky so far that I didn't meet people like that so far like I said im a nooby and when I was the only 1 at the pool practicing bait casting reel , and more people showed up - they always gave me chance to cast without mess took turns and all was good . and they showed me their gear , cuz I never saw jigs and other things they were using . I guess im lucky :D
bassmaster5000

Are you guys spin fly or levelWined or centre pin
bassmaster5000

And how's the water level I live in Aldergrove so I'm asking so many questions cause I want to no if it's worth the drive for me yet
alexfromrichmond

http://www.vankayak.org/capcam/
http://www.waterlevels.gc.ca/eng/station?sid=7735

here is your answer

I use spinning and bait casting reels .

p.s. even if no luck on a river , u can always hit rice lake on your way back to get 2 trouts
alexfromrichmond

any1 got any luck at capilano ?
aaronwilde

I finally had a coho on at cable pool on my fly. Good size one but it ended up breaking my 4lb fluro leader
Bckidfisher69

Ended up not being able to fish today but i will test out the new fly rod tmrow in the mid river or up by the cable pool.
Bckidfisher69

Oh and alex i cant go saturday because im going fishing in the interior
Bckidfisher69

Oh and guys i dont fish in the morning unless the water is very low and hasnt rained for like 3-4 weeks (but i wouldnt fish it if it was like that)i usualy fish in the evening at high tide.
alexfromrichmond

awww. sorry to hear that aaron that's why I use at least 6lb leader :D
banx

hey aaron. I'm fairly new to fly fishing too. what helped a lot was pacific anglers fly fishing from the beach course.... it was $30 and andre taught me a lot about fishing ambleside as well as the cap. specific flies to use as well. stripping speeds etc.

when I first moved to vancouver I though the cap was a complete joke.... the way people fished it and the shenanigans I saw.... I think my first post was a huge rant about it.

anyways, its a cheap class and lots of info. I might be fishing that river tomorrow... If i see you I will introduce myself.

and kudos for riding your bike to fish. thats serious dedication. and it will pay off.
bassmaster5000

When is the best time of the season for the cap like is this early run coho like this all the time just see and catch the odd fish or will there be a run of them in there soon
aaronwilde

its slow right now. some in cable pool but they wont really bite. u can try lower with tides but if u look the big tide is in the middle of the night. tiny one in the day. its a rough river to fish until you put in time and catch some fresh pushes of fish
Bckidfisher69

Im fishing tmrow ill be starting from keith rd and making my way to the cable pool and down with my buddy.Alex if you meet us at kieth rd parking at 10:30 i wouldnt mind you tagging along.
aaronwilde

10:30 is so late lol. Ill be at cable at 4:30am for a few hours
Bckidfisher69

lol naa just have to find non spooked fish.
alexfromrichmond

aaron call me ill be at keith at 4 am , but have to be at 9 by rice lake

ill send u my cell by email
alexfromrichmond

bckid ill be at rice lake at 9 am before I`m free for adventures
CATCH-n-BBQ

I fished dogleg pool yesterday with little success. Saw some coho rolling in the earlier hours but it died off quick. (fished incoming tide)
alexfromrichmond

aaron got 1 today grats to him
cagey

well done Aaron. persistence paid off !
aaronwilde

Yeah finally. I wanted a second pretty bad too cuz it was a small one. Awesome to finally get one. It was packed with ppl very early this morning. i was zoning out for 30 seconds with my fly line sinking and as soon as I started stripping I thought I was snagged but it was this guy :P

I was using a size 10 or 12 fly, as everyone says to keep it small for these coho but if I throw a 8 or 10 wolly bugger (significantly bigger/double the size) would that be better to entice the bigger coho around? (4lb+) or is it just random luck on the small flies? Weird that slow slow stripping works for me better than fast strips like everyone else.
alexfromrichmond

damn , i can tell that u r excited :D 3 times :D

p.s. glad for u man nicely done
Bckidfisher69

lol who said 10:30 was to late.I landed 1 small (1 lb) and another 4lb that i kept.lost one on the fly rod and had a couple followers.all at the same pool surprisingly.all you need is a couple hours bush wacking to find urself some good pools.we hiked from kieth rd to the cable pool and fished like 8/10 pools. When we were at the cable pool we saw 2 landed and 1 lost.i so tired ill probably just chill in my float tube in browning lake today
aaronwilde
