That is the max.It could also be 7.2 , DFO has set a fairly broad target for themselves Should still see some retention Alberni stocks look good too

It scares me when I hear these outrageous numbers from the DFO. I do hope for the opportunity to "catch/floss" a few though, my freezer is sad from the lack of Sockeye for a couple years.

While I love the thought of 75 million sockeye returning to the Fraser River this year I also hate the fact that if true it will make "everyone a fisherman" once again like it did back in 2010.
While totally legal, and now, obviously quite acceptable {eyeroll}, the flossery brings out the worst in people when big returns like this happen. People who know very little about recreational sports fishing can be very hard on the fish {ie: killing steelhead and coho cause they don't know the difference}. We've all seen it happen too many times. It also brings quite a few of the "newer anglers" to the other smaller systems afterwards, but still bringing their floss method with them as they don't know any better.
Not only was it mind boggling to watch some of these "fishermen's" antics towards their catch but do to the fact that we all know how hard the commercial fleet is on the runs to begin with we should try and be as gentle while fishing for sport as we can, it's all about doing our little part in the province as we all want our kids to be able to enjoy the benefits too, as we do today.
I myself will stick to the troll caught sockeye in the gulf that I get and then book it outta town to where the wife and I will have a nice fly fishing trip for summer runs and cutties on the Island. We'd both rather meander down a good steelhead/trout stream in some shorts during this time rather than have to wear shoulder pads just to wet a line
