At my local marine supply store there have a boat sun/rain cover for sale for about $300. Its made out of aluminum poles and some sort of canvas top and is screwed into you boat seats or rails. Fits a boat bettween 12' - 18'. Its not too big not too small, it would cover aprox 50% of a 16' boat. It gives you about 5'-6' head clearance when installed. Im thinking of buying it but I think its too expensive and looks like someone could make it themselves without to much trouble. Anybody have any experiance with these things or opinions? Can anyone out there make these things for cheaper? I would gladly buy one. Grin Thanks the picture is an example

I had one on a 14' flat bottom boat and took it off and tossed it away. What a pain in the butt. Could not fight a fish when it is up. Tangels when it is down. Acts as a hugh sail in the wind. Trolling motors refuse to troll. Anchors won't hold. I would suggest that you put a large golf umbrella in the boat and open it when needed. Easy to handle and a lot cheaper!

Yes it is removable and colapsable. I would imagine it would be some what of a pain to fight a fish with it on but remember it only cover about 50% of your boat so you coauld just move over and reel in that fish. Its a good idea if you plan on fishing when the weather would be questionale. I still think its way too $$$ but where to buy them cheaper I have no clue.
