quick question. you think i would be alright with a regular ol' 6wt for pinks? i really wanna try but i also dont want to lose my rod as i cant afford another at this time.
is this possible? i have a larger reel and lots of backing.

I would definatly use a 6wt..if its just pink in the system your fishing..here where I fish I used my 4/5wt switch on pinks until I knew there were coho there too..now I use my 7wt switch..2weeks back i hooked into a big chum on my 7wt..landed it just fine..next cast I break my tip on a 5lb pink.its a tough choice risk it and maybe break it..or risk it and have it be just fine. If it were me..I'd fish it..just take it easy if it seems big n strong..maybe use a lighter tippit that you can break off easier. I dont know that id wanna catch a 12 chrome coho on it..but it would sure be fun. goodluck deciding..let me know how it works for you. tightlines.

right on! thanks buddy. ya i figured if i play the fish right and treat it like it is (a pinky on a 6wt) i should be able to pull it off.
will post results when i get a chance to get out
