it will work fine as long as you do not horse them. I was fishing at kilby several years ago and broke mine on the 25th fish I landed. I was not patient enough and I snapped it ! surplus herbies phoned dragonfly and they would not guarantee it but they did sell me a new tip for $30 which was better than buying a new one.

Me too! Already have a box of pink flies tied up
steelheadmike72
Nice ties!!! I should get back on the vise..great thing about my area is we get strong pink runs every year..not every 2 years..
In my opinion there is nothing better than pinks and coho off the beach..especially the coho. They explode.. Goodtimes

I've only fished pinks with my floating setup, 6wt and about 6' of leader/tippet.
I'm thinking of using my 5/6 single hand that I've loaded with rio clear intermediate sink tip instead of my floating setup.
What do you guys think?
Knnn
Yup, sounds like you are good to go. Also they are not leader shy so take and keep control and use 8-12 lbs mono as leader and nothing else.

hey where are some good places for pink fishing from the shore?
steelheadmike72
I use my versi-tip and switch from floating to intermediate tips depending on the depth of the water. Pretty much where I fish from shore the pinks are always within 1-6 feet from the surface anyway.also I do a dead slow retrieve which will lower the fly as well

Pinks have finally entered the bay !! Went buzz bombing off the dock..all I got were a few jacks but my brother got 5 pinks . almost time to break out my new echo glass 7wt. Switch. Finally !!! Can't wait

Getting ready to take wife, kids and friends out in Lower mainland in another month. Till then, Squamish is producing.
Monahan
Have they arrived in the squamish river or still near the mouth?
Knnn
Both. Small numbers are in the mamquam.
Monahan
Thanks for the update.

Monahan
Any updates on the river? Are they in there in decent numbers?
--Goin'-Fishin'--
What's decent? Fish moving through in schools and seeing surface action? No. They're not. Lol
If you need to travel for this area, sounds like you do from asking updates, I would suggest tossing buzz bombs at furry creek if you really want some pinks, or wait another week and see the pinks start pushing into the other rivers.

They are on the west van beaches

Yes, I am travelling a couple hours but going there for some camping. Might stop by furry creek and give that shot. Thanks

Lots of pinks coming into the bay now..caught 10 or so yesterday before work buzz bombing off the dock..also a few coho here and there. The pinks havnt started to jump much to shake off their lice . Have seen them rolling over in the sand to get rid of em. Pretty amazing to watch! Looks alot like they are spawning in the sand. I wonder if they are not jumping because of the warm water?
I will start casting flies to them on the incoming tides now when work doesnt interfere with my fishing schedule Goodtimes... Tightlines

are there any rivers for them to go up? not a good situation at all! Have fun catching them .
steelheadmike72
no water in the rivers ..never is enough water in our little rivers until September ...they just come in and out on the tides and circle the bay. I fish for them off the beaches . I pretty much don't fish my local rivers from April -October .
Can't wait till winter 'haha'

Furry creek had 3-6 cars parked all day with crazy winds and big white caps. Saw a few vehicles in Britannia. I took a walk with my pops along mamquam out to the Squamish. There was a handful of anglers around. No fish on banks, and no word of anyone getting any.
We dipped the flies in both systems but the visibility is crap, along with low water levels and a sprinkle of rain coming in next couple days.
Looks grim for now.

My dad trolled around howe sound for pinks yesterday, no sound of them yet. Ill head to furry on saturday, see how it goes

Looks like the run has passed by lol... Started getting them in early july and have been getting them consistently until july 31. since then it has been reallly slow.
steelheadmike72
went to my local beach yesterday and landed 7 pinks and lost alot..all on the fly.. Tons here nut hardly any jumping and there are not very aggressive due to the warm water I'm guessing.
YZ125
How has the run passed by if the pinks have barely entered any rivers yet...
Trootn
lol Squamish rivers were on fire until around afew days after the closing. Im not saying the whole run has passed but i would say the bulk or mass of fish has already passed with smaller schools coming in.

I can't wait! Pinks are way too much fun! So whats the best bet to head out this weekend to get some salmon, furry or mamquam?
Monahan
I wouldn't bother with the Squamish/Furry Creek fishing unless you live in Squamish as with the music festival this weekend, traffic is going to be crazy. Ambleside is a good alternative. Pink salmon fishing is definitely one of the more exciting fisheries. It has been an weird start to the pink season in Squamish, it was great in the beginning but it has really slowed down recently.

Go to the mouth of the cap on the reserve side they are holding at the mouth heavy!!!also some Sockeye mixed in so make sure you don't bonk one.

Got my first two!
Hope they're tasty. Everyone seems to say you can't freeze them...
--Goin'-Fishin'--
Look at frozen salmon in the seafood section at your local shopping mart. It's all chum or pink unless clearly stated sockeye. We have it too good here and many people think pinks and chum are no good to eat unless fresh. It's all perception...
YZ125
Fool where did you pick up those two beauties?
meddlingfool
Furry Creek. My first time going there. I caught one, a gentlemen doing much much better than I using a pink fly was kind enough to let me land one of his so he could keep fishing, and then I caught a second one, a male that was bigger than these two. But I must have been wearing my 'special kinda stoopid' hat, cause I must not have put the male in the bag right, cause when I went to leave only these two were left. So be it.
Both of my catches were on cheap pink army and navy spoons retrieved at a dead slow crawl. Both basically right at my feet. I didn't even need to wind it, just did a 180 and put em on the beach.

Wish I could go again today but I don't own a car...

If you are using light spoons , how can you cast very far ? Newbie to fishing here
meddlingfool
Add split shot about 18" from the spoon as casting weights.
Knnn
and/or use light (8-10 lbs)braid on a well spooled reel and a decent rod.
meddlingfool

Spoons again.

That out of the mamquam/squam?

Ya, just saw on the FwR site that Mamquam is closed starting on the 22nd!

Looks like the Squamish will be crowded.
I've never fished the Cheakamus. Anybody have any suggestions?
YZ125
Where is a good spot to fish the squamish? I was thinking of going close to the mouth of the mamquam on the squamish river?
YZ125
Nvm I don't think you're allowed to fish there.
