Hi guys, i remember going to lesser garibaldi lake for trout fishing in the end of august two years ago. When do you guys think the ice is going to be off, and the lake is going to be fishable. I am thinking of going july 1st or 10th to be safe. What do you guys think?

Oh yes all of the lakes up there are ice free now. Been since late April. Quite the hike for a fishing trip :P I've been having some great success on Alta Lake (no hike). My buddy was on Nita Lake this week and he couldn't keep them off. I'm hitting Alta tomorrow.

Wow that's great news to hear, will most likely get out there on monday or the next weekend. How are you catching the fish? Fly fishing or spinners. Is Alta lake as good as the garibaldi's?

If you want the hike 10+km to get up there, then go nuts
I was at Alta yesterday and it was friggin awesome!! Read my report that I will be posting in a few moments. I was only flyfishing.
Garibaldi- hike and unsure fishing happenings, no boat other than a float tube. Alta- drive to lake, solid info on happenings and can use a boat.
I'd say all lakes in the Whistler area are fishing good ATM.

I like the hike Is there still a lot of snow and is half the lake ice covered? Or is it all snow/ice free now? -Ivan

I can't give you a for certain on the current conditions up in the Garibaldi area. I'm sure there is still some snow around in the Taylor Meadows area.
Have a look at the Whistler Webcams and see how much snow there is up at the higher elevations. http://www.whistlerblackcomb.com/the-mountain/web-cams/whistler
Perhaps get on some hiking forums like Club Tread or North Shore Hikers to see if someone has posted new info.
If you are really desperate, maybe call some helicopter/floatplane companies in the Whistler/Squamish area and see if you can get some info from them as to what they have seen.
Good Luck!
