with all the rain we had I was just itching to go hit my "meat hole" today..to get there its a good hike with 4 river crossings...now i know the river is high..but I just need to fish..so i took the first crossing..high and fast..but crossable..2nd crossing had me worried..but i had a good strong wading branch..lol...any way..made it too the meathole...it was on fire..just as i hoped...it hadnt rained all morning..then 11am it stArts to pour..i fish another hour and head out...damn .water is a good 4" high..which aint much if it wasnt so high to begin with...first and second crossing were good..almost bailed on the third...current swept my feet out on the last crossing..threw the rod as i was being swept awAy..took me 40 feet down..until i managed to scramble to shore...soaked head to foot..waders filled up..scared me to death..i actually thought i was done....DO NOT CROSS swollen rivers alone !!
on the brighter side..landed 5..lost 4..too many hits to count..took home a 11lb doe..in the oven right now..best day so far..different river tomorrow...tightlines.

I was wearing chest waders without the belt...lesson learned today..no more high river crossings for me alone...I am learning the hard way on my first steelhead season...next fall i will buy a pfd..the vest type..and a good solid colapsable wading staff.

i will probally only be fish a couple more weeks..then out on the boat for a fishing season..so probally wont need one for awhile..and to be able to fish as much as i do i need to stick to my budget..I"ll slowly get this stuff together..need a decent center pin set up too..and a good switch rod...lol damn this sport is pricey to get into....but first on my list will be a good solid ocean flyrod .....

none of that gear will be needed if you drown. You saying youre gonna be fishing from a boat soon? #1 rule of boating is always wear a pfd.
