steelheadmike72

no it does not..they color up pretty quick once they get into the river..I've only picked up a couple real chromes...and this is same in both my local rivers...and we fish them both between tbe mouth and 3km up...this one was the best fight ive had yet.

i am afraid i am dripping with jealousy. keep us entertained with your great posts !

as this is my first season steelheading and that i fish only 2 rivers within 2-3 km from ocean..it seems to me that the meat looks the same either colored or chrome...I am going to eat todays catch tonight...this will be my first one i eat...other than my dec fish that i smoked...it was colored up and tasted great !!..I think that they color up very fast when it hits the river and also think that they have been in the system 2weeks or less...just my thoughts...

todays catch happened early..within the first dozen casts..same pink/peach color of wool...this doe took off tbrough the tailout ,under a log ,around the corner, and halfway down the next run...she was active..this one i eat tonight. tightlines.
steelheadmike72

do they enter the river colored then?..ive been seeing some pretty darn close to the mouth all colored up..on a side note both bucks the other day were dripping their milk and this doe today was dripping eggs and when i opened her up all the eggs were loose (not in the sac)..

goin'fishin', stealhead do not deteriorate as badly as salmonas most of them return to the ocean after spawning. roe bandit mentioned kelps, which are spawned out stealhead on their way back to the ocean.
i think roe bandit is quite correct about the coloured fish being in the river a while. i think that would be more likely that them entering the river already coloured. you probably saw the fish go by a few weeks back mike and they came back down with the high water. they probably go up and down river depending on the conditions.
what makes you say there are no summer runs? in one of your first posts bently responded and said he had fished your rivers. i thought he said something about summer runs but i am too lazy to look back .(BENTLY WE NEED YOU. COME ON BACK! )one of the members suggested the december fish was a summer run . it did look a bit greyish for a fresh december winter fish. just wondering???
steelheadmike72

well at least i knew there was a M-I and a L...lol.

oops
steelheadmike72

about the summer runs...everyone i have talked too says there is no summer runs...i have come to know the hatchery guys quite well and they say no too...definately some kelt..but thats all..but really...colored or chrome..they all fight awesome and are just beautifull..id rather have a nice big colored up rosey one at the end of my line..they tend to fight way more
