| I seem to pick the bad weather - rain and gusty winds plagued the morning (but ensured that I was the only boat on the water for almost the entire day) and accurate casting was not easy...I started to get some action from small stuff ( I haven't counted them in the total above)around the reeds and submerged features but nothing like I have had before. As the weather began to improve slightly the action picked up and the cuthroat came online, with some nice looking fish going for the olive bugger in particular. Olive seems to be the colour everywhere I fish at the moment! Drifting through the water lilies seemd to be the best bet, most of the best fish were caught behind the boat among the lily pads near to the shallow beach on the point (often used by folks fishing from the shore - if you know the lake you know where I mean), which was a little disappointing if you know what I mean. I had hoped to find a magic spot where the fish were going crazy, but success only in the same old spot that everyone else uses was a psychological blow! I didn't get the chance to check out the southern shore but that's for next time. Despite the slow start it was fun to be pulling the fish out of the lily pads - the trout were putting up a good fight. Deer Lake always seems to provide some good fishing at some point during the day.
