Hi All, unfortunately, the only time i can get away lake fishing is the last week in July. Would love any experiences, comments or tips on lake locations to spend time in a small boat on a good producing lake in the middle of summer for a few days. We are able to travel 6 -7 hours drive out of Vancouver. Thanks for your input
Cheers

if you want good summer fishing, Try Tunkwa Lake, the best fishing there is in July and Aug. It is also an awesome chironomid lake and usually the key to good fishing. If you chironomid fish you are in for some great fishing.

what are the main differences between chironomid fishing and using other types of flies

Tunkwa lake is in the Logan Lake area, just north of merrit. Not very hard to find.
Chironomid fishing is probably the most effective form of flyfishing to catching trout in BC here are some info website... http://www.bcadventure.com/adventure/angling/bugs/chironomid/chironomid.phtml

I was just up at Tunkwa this past weekend (July 23, 24, 25) Fishing was awesome for those who new what they were doing. I'm new to Chronomid fishing, but quickly caught on by asking some of the guys who we're landing 30-40 fish a day.

My wife and I tied up a variety of flys after getting some info and the fishing was great. We got 6 fish (1.5 - 3 lbs)and they all went for 3-4 runs, hearing the reel spin was great!

If you go, size 14 chronomids, chrome or brown with copper ribbing. They seemed to be successful...

One other quik note...

I was up at 4:30 Sat and Sun and on the water by 5. No one else was on the water until 8-9. From what I now know the chronomid hatch is best between 10-3...
