Bassman

Have just moved here and need some info on salmon fishing. Live downtown and planning on hitting the Fraser on Thursday morning and need to know what I might need to fish from shore other then rod, reel and weighters. Things such as good spots that are accesiable from shore how far they are from town etc etc. Also if anyone here is up to being a go with guy I will buy there beer! You can contact me at asajr2@hotmail.com looking forward to hearing your input.

There are not that many spots for bottom bouncing at this water level (unless you have a boat):

Gold Dredge Bar (Laidlaw, Jones Creek)
Chawathil Bar (Below Pipeline)
Haig Scale Bar
Herrling Island (if you manage to cross Cattermole Slough)

Tight lines!

There are tons of great opportunities around bassman, frankly I am surprised that more people havent posted with more helpful info...where are all the fishing heroes when you need them?!?

Any ways, being so close to the cap, that would be one of the first rivers I try if I were you. The mouth can be very prductive this time of year, just remember you need a tidal liscence. Spoons, spinners, buzz bombs...all good choices for these fiesty little coho. Explore the mouth behind Park Royal. Once we get some higher water and fresh fish into the system the rest of the river should pick up too. In the upper river, add bait and flies to your arsenal.

The vedder has been pretty good considering its been open for 5 days. Personally, I would much rather catch a spring under the float then floss one on the fraser. I have hooked 2 springs and beached one in my first 2 trips to the vedder this summer (not to mention a sockeye too) so indeed its worth the drive from Van.

Fish are scattered throughout so just drive the river, look where the cars are parked and watch what the locals are doing. Once you have found a couple good spots where everyone else fishes, do a little exploring to find some good quite spots for yourself.

Good luck

In the information page about Chawathil Bar it says:

"Fraser - Chawathil Bar, hike (there is far better access via IR)"

What does "IR" mean?

And if it means what I'm guessing (indian reserve) - how do you get to the bar via the reserve then?
