Author Topic: July 1st Vedder

So whos excited about about the opening day on the Vedder?

ha! looks like another potnetial for a controversial discussion. the thing is that one group of fishermen would love to be fishing there as there are tons of small trout (12in) at that time; other group of fishermen will tell you that those are actually small steelheads and it you should not be fishing; and then a third group with a reference to DFO will tell that those are "a bad hatchery stock" as they should have left vedder to start their journey and the ones that are still there by july are probably lost anyways.

so, go figure!

anyways, it has been always a good time to take your kids and do some fishing/camping.

tight lines!

What the hell are you talking about? Anyways Im excited for July 2nd as I cannot make it out there today. Hope to hear lots of great reports. p.s dont kill any of those little rainbows.

Those small fish (especially if clipped) are definitely juvenile steeelhead. Some steelhead smolts will stay in the river for up to 2 years and actually reach sexual maturity in the river (there is a technical term for this but I dont know it).

Indeed I would release any of those fish too.

Bert, I would recommend the fraser tomorrow, not many reds around. heard of one being hooked and I got one too but thats it.
