Fished the mouth and mid river this moring and saw nothing. Tide wasnt great, but last year this time they were there in good numbers. Didnt even see a jumper...nothing but weeds!

Found one later on today:

while fishing the cap river mouth is it more effective than fishing in the river itself,? and also is it more effective to fish from a boat? I went there in a boat sunday afternoon and what little fish were jumping were within 20 feet from shore and congregating in the main channel of the river mouth.

I had a small whaler for many years and we used to slay em in the chuck. Trolling in front of Navi Jacks (pink appartment building), we took many a limit for 3-4 fishermen (12-16 fish). Havent trolled there for years but I cant see why it wouldnt be much different now.

I assume that by trolling you could also hook coho headed for the seymour or up indian arm...maybe even some resident springs too.

I think the mid day was a low this week end. If trolling, I would think the high tide would be better, especailly if you're down around navi jacks.

Personally I prefer the river as opposed to the mouth but with the low water I may be forced to spend more time in the mouth this year. With my lack of experience in the mouth tho I am not going to be terribly useful!

anyone ben to the Cap lately??? rained a few days in a row and I was wondering if the action had improved, thanks!

i've been fishing it from july 6 to july 17th. the salmon is there at the mouth, best to fish two hours after low tide changes to high tide to be able to get a chance, since at high tide, harder to cast further on the native side from the westside of the river. lots of fish. most are using crocks and spoons. better if the wind is blowing out towards the water. if the ducks ain't swimming, its best not to fish, since your wasting your time.
