Author Topic: Report Illegal Fishing Practices

Fisheries and Oceans Canada is extremely concerned with unauthorized activity on our rivers and lakes and asks for the continued assistance from the general public for information on activities or any contravention of the Fisheries Act and Regulations. Anyone with information can call the 24-hour, toll-free Observe, Record, and Report line at
1-800-465-4336.

I think everyone should keep this # in their cell phones for quick use.

DFO is a joke when it comes to responding to complaints. Last year I made several complaints about people snagging pinks off the mouth of the Seymour and not once did they responded.

Thats a shame, they should take our calls more seriously. If they dont then whats the point in calling. However its still up to us to keep an eye out for the sake of our sport.

i believe that it is in some ways our responsability to govern the waters we love so much. If you see somebody who is practicing illegal techniques do something about it. Snap the pricks rod in half or push him in the water. Thats why its good to fish with a buddy for backup! Bertoli

dfo has auxillary personnel in plain clothes reponding to the majority of complaints during peak salmon time. they will be there watching and recording but you won't recognize them until they drop their fishing rods and ask for your license! That includes killing fish you don't plan on keeping! but the biggest deterrent to illegal fishing practises is ourselves...it is our recreation and sport and we should make sure everyone plays by the rules.

I wonder if it would be legal to take the picture of an illigal fiherman and forward it to the authorities or post on fishing web sites? giving you have a camera handy. Privacy issues and all that I mean.

Anyone with information can call the 24-hour, toll-free Observe, Record, and Report line at
1-800-465-4336. I used to work for the court services a while back before the liberals took to power. while the majority of violations were crabbing/shellfish the odd illegal fishing methods also came by my desk. Evidence is crucial to sentencing these indivituals. Also DON'T PLAY HERO when facing these people...you don't know who they are. use the toll free number and if you can.... get their license plate number.RCMP also have the power to apprehend these indivituals. They can provide the necessary information to the courts for a court summons to appear.

your right el-nino, let the guys with the guns take care of these violators, not us. you never know, they could be just waiting to go off.
