I have a Shimano Convergance with a abu Garcia Level wind spooled with 20Lb test would this work trying to catch the Big Red i have another rod thats a little bigger than the other one so i might use that one, what other way is there to catching these guys then useing a big weight and spin and glo any yarn colors or bait etc ???
Alex

20lb for bar fishing (plunking) is not enough, as you play not just fish but a heavy weight as well, not to mention pulling it out for casting. Save your good rod for later - 18 oz weight will kill regular baitcasting rod. Same with the reel.

You will need a very cheap rod/reel combo and you can get it in Wall Mart, Canadian Tire or Army & Navy. Rod should be very thick and ugly. Put 18 oz weight on the tip of the rod and check if you can cast it this way.

As for spots:

Mission:
Standard Gaz Bar (famous, but requires saltwater license)
Ridgedale Bar
McDonald Landing Bar
Dewdney-Prairie Bar

Chilliwack:
Island 22
Ferry Island Bar

Agassiz:
Mountain Slough
McDonald Road Bar

Rosedale:
Herrling Island Bar (you may need a boat to get there at high water)

Laidlaw:
Gold Dredge Bar
St Elmo Road Bar
Bulger Road Bar

Hope:
Wardle Street Bar (famous)

So, tight lines & sharp hooks!

just a quick question, how far do you usually have to cast out for these springs?
Alex

It does not really matter - just as far as you can cast with your equipment. Normally, you cannot cast too far with heavy weights.
